Tommy Lane, an actor and stuntman who appeared in such classic films as Shaft and Live and Let Die, died Monday at Fort Lauderdale’s Florida Medical Center after a long battle with COPD. He was 83. His daughter, Kamala Lane, confirming his passing to Deadline.
In Richard Roundtree’s “Shaft,” his character Leroy could be seen crashing into the window of Richard Roundtree’s office in Times Square. “That’s cold shit, throwing my man Leroy out the window. I picked up my man and threw him out the damn window,” Willy says in the 1971 classic on blaxploitation.

Lane — who starred in 1971’s “Shaft” and 1973’s “Live and Let Die” — passed away Monday at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale following a battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).In the 1973 James Bond film “Live and Let Die,” he played Adam, one of Kananga’s henchmen who pursues Roger Moore in a speedboat off the coast of the fictional island of San Monique. His character threatens: “You made a mistake on that island, Bond. You took something that didn’t belong to you. And he took it from a friend of Mr. Big’s. It’s hard to recover from that kind of mistake. ”
Before the speedboat scene, he can be heard saying “Bond ripped off one of our boats. He is heading to the Irish Bayou. The man who catches him is still alive! Now move mothers! ”
He also appeared on “Cotton Comes to Harlem”, “Ganja & Hess”, “Shamus” starring Burt Reynolds, and television shows such as “Simon & Simon” and “Flipper”.
Born Tommy Lee Jones in Miami, Lane was also a jazz musician, playing trumpet and flugelhorn at New York City’s Blue Note during the 1980s.
