Back in June, folks in the UK and Commonwealth countries celebrated the 75 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
For members of the royal family, the Platinum Jubilee was supposed to represent a golden opportunity.
For the first time since 2020, the entire Windsor clan would be under one roof, and insiders hoped that a few smiling photo ops would be sufficient to put a rest to the rumors of discord among the royals.
Alas, things didn’t turn out that way, and by the time Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the States, word on the street was that the Jubilee had only made things worse.
Many insiders offered many explanations as to why Harry and Meghan left London on bad terms.
Some claimed that Meghan and Harry became upset after being booed by crowds during the celebrations.
Others insisted that the Sussexes’ refusal to participate in scheduled meet-and-greet sessions created the feeling among the other royals that Harry and Meg were once again refusing to pull their weight.
Obviously, most of these explanations came from royal insiders, and thus, were consistently anti-Sussex.
Months later, the pro-Windsor postmortems are still rolling in, and the latest focuses on the never-ending feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton.
The sisters-in-law by marriage never got along, but the situation was exacerbated when Meghan revealed in her interview with Oprah that Kate made her cry just days before her wedding.
By all accounts, Kate and Meghan steered clear of one another during the Jubilee — which was probably for the best.
But a body language expert is now claiming that Kate managed to make her distaste for Meghan fully apparent without using any words.
Speaking with UK tabloid The Express, Judi James revealed that footage from the Jubilee’s Service of Thanksgiving suggests that Kate’s disapproval of her US counterpart is as strong as ever.
“This moment appears to show Kate mouthing the word ‘Wow’ after having looked across in the direction of Meghan and Harry,” James said of one tense moment.
“Her gaze does seem to fit this theory insofar that she turns her head to look sideways and back, which fits the direction the couple were sitting in,” the expert added.
“Although the distance between them would have been quite large.”
James noted that it’s not quite clear what Kate is reacting to, but she was definitely looking in Meghan’s general direction.
“Whatever she has seen seems to be responsible for a dour or thoughtful expression,” James continued.
“When she turns back, there are three or four long blinks to suggest a cut-off ritual.
“A ‘Wow’ response would suggest surprise bordering on shock though.”
We’re no experts on body language jargon, but a “cut-off ritual” sounds pretty extreme.
Again, we don’t know for sure that Kate’s sullen response was prompted by Meghan, but Judi seems to believe that that’s the likeliest explanation.
“Kate would surely have been aware the Sussexes were attending and where they would be sitting,” James said.
As for how Meghan responded to Kate’s wordless shade, it seems we’ll never know, as the American Duchess kept her face concealed from view.
“Meghan’s wide-brimmed hat was tilted at an angle to make her face hidden from Kate’s view,” James observed.
Sounds like Meg won the day thanks to some strategic hat placement!
