Pam Shriver is an American former professional tennis player. Throughout the 1980s, Shriver was ranked among the world’s top 10 in women’s singles, peaking at world No. 3. She reached the world’s No. 1 doubles ranking in 1985. Pam along with her regular doubles partner Martina Navratilova was named the WTA Tour’s “Doubles Team of the Year” eight consecutive times from 1981 through 1988 and won the WTA Tour Championships title ten times between 1981 and 1992. 

Shriver first came to the limelight at the 1978 US Open where, as a 16-year-old amateur, she reached the women’s singles final. She defeated the reigning Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova in a semifinal. She won all three gold medals at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba in the category of singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. 

In 2021 Shriver became a helper of the new Women’s Sports Policy Working Group created in response to President Joe Biden’s executive order that helps transgender female athletes in developing their sports careers and also protects the girls’ and women’s competitive categories. She currently is a tennis broadcaster for ESPN and a pundit for BBC tennis coverage.

Pam Shriver has been married two times in her life. Her first husband was Joe Shapiro, a former Walt Disney Company lawyer, with whom she married in 1998. Sadly, Shapiro died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1999. Then she married her second husband George Lazenby, an actor, in 2002. With Lazenby, Shriver shares three children.

Their first child: a son named, George Junior, born on July 12, 2004, and twins Kate and Sam born on October 1, 2005. After six years of marriage, the couple got divorced in August 2008 after Shriver filed for divorce and their divorce was finalized in May 2011.
