Christine Brown is officially an outsider.

The long-time Sister Wives cast member made this clear herself back in early November when she announced on Instagram that she had arrived at a stunning decision:

She was leaving Kody Brown.

And she was moving back to her native state of Utah.

Sister Wives Season 17 kicks off in September 2022. Here is a look at the very first poster in anticipation of new and exciting episodes.

“After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” she wrote back then.

“We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family.”

Kody didn’t seem overly disturbed by the development, responding to the situation as follows last year:

“We enjoyed many years together and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents.”

Christine Brown and Kody Brown are no more. These are official TLC-sponsored images of the stars.

Now, however?

As evidenced by the official poster (above, at the outset of this post) for Sister Wives Season 17, the show will tackle this drama directly this fall.

The promotional image features Kody and his three current spouses — Robyn, his only legal wife; Meri; and Janelle — standing together, seemingly united…

… while Christine stands off to the side, staring into the distance, at a life away from this polygamous family.

The Sister Wives Season 17 trailer also depicts various scenes centered around Christine finally choosing to walk away.

“It’s been heartbreaking being your wife for years,” Christine tells the Brown patriarch during one emotional conversation between the two, for example, prompting outrage from Kody.

“You never tried to have a really good relationship with these other people, and that’s the reason I’m pissed off,” he yells.

“It’s just a knife in the kidney, after all the years, the sacrifices I made to love you.”

Kody adds in the preview that his “heart is broken” by Christine’s departure, but he seems equally concerned about his reputation.

“The message we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now,” he tells the camera at one point.

However, other loved ones say their personal problems between Christine and Kody shouldn’t be viewed as an indictment against polyamory as a whole.

As Robyn notes: “I will never say that the problem is plural marriage.”

This, of course, might be easy for Robyn to decree.

She spends more time than anyone else with Kody and insiders previously detailed all the ways in which Kody’s feelings for Robyn impacted Christine’s decision to get out of this unhealthy relationship.

“The big reason why she split from him is because Kody has been completed devoted to Robyn for the past five or six years,” a source previously told Us Weekly, adding:

“That hasn’t changed at all.”

Heck, for the first time in public, Christine basically admits on an upcoming episode that this report was accurate.

“I feel like to Kody, Robyn’s more important,” Christine says in a confessional, courtesy of the aforementioned trailer.

Sister Wives Season 17 kicks off on Sunday, September 11, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

“When TLC first introduced Sister Wives, the country was fascinated by a family with a very different lifestyle than most,” said Howard Lee, president of TLC streaming and network originals, in a statement this spring.

“The Browns challenged the notion of a traditional family mold and over a decade later, their family dynamics are still resonating with viewers because of their honesty, vulnerability and now, their relatability.”
