A 17-year-old mother who had her baby ripped from her arms by police at a Byron Bay commune in shocking footage has defended her ‘organic lifestyle’ as she fights to get the child back.
The confronting footage taken last week shows the topless mother clutching her little boy to her chest as she pleads with police to leave her alone.
‘This is not right, this is my baby. Please don’t take him,’ she repeatedly says.
In the video, the young mother argues with several officers and support workers from family and community services, who arrived in her commune in the Byron Shire to remove the little boy.
Family and friends claim that the mother had adopted an ‘outdoor lifestyle’ and wanted to raise her child away from ‘harmful chemicals and toxins’.
While the lifestyle is unorthodox, those close to the situation insist the woman is a ‘great mother… doing what she thinks is best for her baby’.
But one of the support workers can be heard on the video saying she has ‘concerns for the safety and well being of the baby’ and that ‘this is not going to end any differently at the moment.’

A fundraising page has since been created in a desperate attempt to reunite the teen mother with her baby.
It has raised more than $20,000 in just under a week.
‘Our beautiful son has been stolen from our arms due to false and misleading information,’ the mother wrote on the page.
‘As mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles and grandparents we can feel the trauma this separation is causing to our family.
‘[The baby] is eight months old and still meant to be breastfed, this is causing myself a lot of pain and risk of mastitis and drying of milk.
‘We eat and live an organic lifestyle and love spending our time in nature, swimming and having fun.’

The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards ‘rescuing’ the little boy and ‘bringing him home in our arms, where he belongs’.
The baby’s 18-year-old father said he misses his son.
The father said the boy sleeps between his parents each night.
‘He never cries and is always smiling and laughing send your love to [our son] he needs it we don’t know when he will return hope to be reunited soon,’ the father wrote.
The baby’s 19-year-old aunt told The Daily Telegraph her sister is an ‘incredibly loving, health-conscious and intuitive mother’.
‘She is not your typical teenager. (The baby) is healthy and big and happy and he is the calmest baby, he’s always laughing,’ the sister said.
‘They want a clean, organic lifestyle and to have a strong connection with the land.’
The officers initially try to reason with her and convince her to hand her baby over, before eventually trying to peel her off him
In the video footage, the police officers initially try to reason with the mother and attempt to convince her to hand her baby over, before eventually trying to peel her off him.
They repeatedly tell her she is ‘hurting the baby’ as she tries to keep a hold of him.
One of the support workers at one stage hears the baby cry and tells the woman that there is no other outcome than him leaving her care.
‘He’s crying… We’ll sort stuff out but he’s going to have to go. This is not going to end any differently at the moment.’
The woman then says she has ‘concerns for the safety and well being of the baby’.
Family and Community Services cannot comment on individual matters, but a spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the department ‘takes concerns about children’s safety and well being extremely seriously.’
