An 11-year-old boy from Muskogee, Oklahoma, was honored for doing something that he thought wasn’t extraordinary. Davyon Johnson made it to the news after saving the lives of two people on the same day.

He was featured in local newspapers and TV channels, and a pizza party was thrown in his honor. The sixth grader had no idea that his acts of kindness would turn into something big.

Like other kids his age, Davyon enjoyed sports like wrestling and basketball and spent his time playing Fortnite and operating remote-controlled cars. The boy saved two lives in two separate incidents on December 9, 2021.

One of the people he saved was his classmate, and the other was a woman. The Muskogee Public Schools recognized the boy’s efforts, while the local police authorities gave him a certificate for his bravery.

The school’s principal, Latricia Dawkins, said Davyon was everyone’s friend and always helped people around him. Meanwhile, the boy felt he didn’t do something extraordinary. He confessed:

“I don’t want everyone to pay attention to me. I kind of did what I was supposed to do.”

How Did the Boy Save the First Life?

It was a regular day for Davyon when he was in a classroom on December 9, 2021. Suddenly, a faint whisper of a boy saying, “I’m choking, I’m choking,” caught his attention, and he immediately sprang into action.

It turned out that Davyon’s classmate was choking on a water bottle cap after he tried to open it with his mouth. Davyon, who had learned how to perform a Heimlich maneuver through YouTube videos, wrapped his arm around his classmate’s abdomen and squeezed it.

He did it once, but nothing happened. Hoping to save his classmate, Davyon squeezed his classmate’s abdomen again, but the cap didn’t pop out. It was on the third try that the boy stopped choking.

“It was very scary,” Davyon admitted during an interview after his story went viral. However, this was not the end of his concern for his classmate. His principal said he kept asking his classmate if he was okay, even after the first responders arrived.

“He’s just a very humble and old spirit,” Dawkins said about the preteen. Meanwhile, Davyon ‘s classmate quickly recovered and felt fine the following day. Things would have turned out to be different if it wasn’t for Davyon’s quick thinking.

How Did the Boy Save the Life of the Second Person in a Day?

After saving his classmate’s life at school, Davyon went home with his mother, LaToya Johnson, and rested before they left the house to attend church service in the evening. During their car ride to the church, Davyon noticed something unusual.

LaToya was driving towards the church when she and Davyon saw smoke rising from a house. The mother did not think it was serious until her wise son insisted on stopping their car. He was sure the smoke was rising from a house fire.

Upon driving toward the back of the house, Davyon and LaToya saw flames, but it seemed like the residents were unaware of the alarming situation. While the air smelled of burned wood, Davyon stepped out of his car and knocked on the door to alert the people inside.

Meanwhile, LaToya dialed 911 and pressed her horn, hoping the people inside the house would hear it. In no time, the door opened, and five people rushed out of the house after learning what had happened.

Everything seemed fine until Davyon and LaToya saw an older lady with a walker slowly coming out of the house. “She was on her porch. But I thought, being a good citizen, I would cross and help her get into her truck and leave,” the boy said.

He helped the older woman quickly get away from the fire and left her with her family members. Then, he returned to his mother’s vehicle, and they went to attend church services.

However, this was not the first time Davyon had seen a house on fire. Years ago, his father spotted an apartment complex on fire and immediately rushed inside to save the residents. Davyon said his late father, who died on August 9, 2021, due to Covid, was his inspiration.

“He has always indicated that he wants to be an EMT,” Dawkins said about the brave boy. Meanwhile, he never spoke about his heroic acts until asked because he didn’t feel he had done something special.

Here is another story about a 12-year-old boy who lost his leg on his way to school while trying to save his mother and baby brother.
