91-Year-Old Grandma Marries Toyboy, Leaves Her Entire Family without an Inheritance

One 91-year-old was subject to vile mistreatment, right under the noses of her loving family, who felt utterly helpless. But, they weren’t about to back down without a fight – taking this case all the way to Parliament. 

While many of us are aware of child abuse, sometimes we forget how vulnerable the elderly are. They are an erased group with a lost voice and so quickly taken advantage of by ill-intentioned individuals.

Joan Blass from Leeds was one of them as an alleged predator slowly slinked his way into her life, taking advantage of her poor mental faculties for his own sick goals. 

A DEVIOUS HELLO

This widow was diagnosed with dementia in 2011. She soon met a stranger, known as Mr. Folan, around two decades younger than her. In a clip shared on Facebook, her 62-year-old daughter Daphne recalled:

“She didn’t even know who he was, even in those early days. She would say, ‘Who is he? Where does he live?’ And I’d be going, ‘I think he’s living with you mom.'”

Understandably concerned, she and the rest of the family went through every channel from law enforcement to lawyers for help. They were told not to worry. 

A SECRET CEREMONY 

After being diagnosed with cancer, Blass passed away in 2016, but this was not the only tragedy that struck the grieving relatives. 

Eventually, the issue was taken up by Labour Member of Parliament Fabian Hamilton. 

This unknown individual had married their mother without their knowledge five months before she died. The witnesses present were a woman from a pub and Mr. Folan’s son. 

STEALING MONEY AND MEMORIES

Along with this marriage came the “toyboys” right to Blass’s inheritance. Her children, Daphne and her brother, 53-year-old brother Michael, were initially meant to acquire this estate via their mom’s will. This landed at £270,000. The daughter said: 

“The absolute bottom dropped out of our world…the witnesses were his son and a lady from the pub.”

Beyond the money, Mr. Folan truly hit the family where it hurt, making sure to take over the funeral plans and inviting none of them. He buried his legal wife underneath a grave with no marking. 

TAKING IT TO PARLIAMENT 

The daughter took the legal path but lost to Mr. Folan. Eventually, the issue was taken up by Labour Member of Parliament Fabian Hamilton.

He has consistently been pushing for elderly rights in this respect long before this case. During his presentation to the Commons, he presented a Bill for the protection of the elderly, referring to Blass’s case in the process. The MP expressed: 

“Believing that duress is not present simply because one of the party’s looks content does not mean that there is the mental capacity for that consent.”

He referred to it as “Predatory Marriage.” Hamilton’s Bill calls for more oversight regarding marriage registration in this capacity, among many other provisions. 

Legal jargon, money figures, and talk of provisions and Bills do not truly capture the heartbreak that such an act can cause.

This family has lost their mother, who was allegedly exploited before her death, instead of being treated with kindness. This ghastly memory of their loving mom will be forever stuck in their minds and memories.
