There’s no doubt Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner bunch have GIGANTIC net worths. While Kylie Jenner has long been considered the family member who brings in the most dough, that may not be the case anymore!
Kylie is the youngest of her famous siblings and was once touted as the youngest self-made billionaire. She was given the title by Forbes in 2019 thanks to the mega success Kylie Cosmetics brought her since she launched the brand in 2015. However, the outlet rescinded the title in May 2020 after accusing her of “inflating the size and success of her business for years” and reevaluated her fortune at a little less than $900 million.
The reality starlet slammed the claims on Twitter the same day. “What am I even waking up to. I thought this was a reputable site,” Kylie wrote. “All I see are a number of inaccurate statements and unproven assumptions LOL. I’ve never asked for any title or tried to lie my way there EVER. Period.”
With a following of more than 200 million on Instagram, combined with the fact that she’s a trendsetter, it’s not totally shocking the 20-something is killing it either way. “I didn’t expect anything. I did not foresee the future,” she told the Forbes of her successes in 2019. “But [the recognition] feels really good. That’s a nice pat on the back.”
While it’s evident Kylie works her butt off, let’s be real — Kim walked so her sisters could run, and her net worth now seems to reflect that hustle. Until 2017, the KKW Beauty founder was the wealthiest of her famous fam with a net worth of $175 million, which since then, has increased to a whopping $1.8 billion and reclaimed the title, according to Forbes.
The major jump came after Kim sold a 20 percent stake of her KKW Beauty empire to Coty (the same company Kylie sold the majority stake of her company to which got her the original billionaire title in 2019.) While Kim made the leap to billionaire status in April 2021, her ex-husband Kanye West who hit his own billionaire milestone, couldn’t help but celebrate when other outlets previously reported her to value to be more than $1 billion. In February 2021, Kim filed for divorce from then-husband Kanye. The former couple share four children North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.
“I am so proud of my beautiful wife Kim Kardashian West for officially becoming a billionaire,” he wrote on Twitter ahead of their marital issues. “You’ve weathered the craziest storms and now God is shining on you and our family. So blessed this is still life, so I made you this still life,” he wrote beside a photograph of vegetables and flowers. “We love you so much.”
Kim, who turned a sex tape into a super successful empire (with the help of momager Kris Jenner, of course), revealed her tricks of the trade to Variety in 2015. “You have to be organized. It might be really simple, but if you’re not fully organized, it becomes a huge problem,” she said at the time. “The reality is people don’t want to get up and work. It sounds crazy, but I see it all the time.”
She added, “If you find something you’re really passionate about, figure out a way to make that your job. Then, you’ll be happy. If you aren’t doing what you want to do, you’ll be frustrated.”
She later spoke about her work ethic to Variety in March 2022, saying, “It seems like nobody wants to work these days. You have to surround yourself with people that wanna work. Have a good work environment where everyone loves what they do, because you have one life. No toxic work environments and show up and do the work.”
Kim faced backlash for the comments and later apologized on Good Morning America, saying the statement was taken out of context.
“Well, that statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it,” she said in the special that was released on March 28. “It became a sound bite really with no context. And that sound bite came off the notion and the question right before, which was, ‘After 20 years of being in the business, you’re famous for being famous.’ My whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about what advice would you give to women.”
Kim explained she did not intend to make women feel bad with her comments, but rather that she was defending herself against assumptions that she didn’t work hard to build her brand.
“It wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard,” she went on. “I know that they do. It was taken out of context, but I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”
