Aaron Sam Taylor-Johnson Renewed Their Vows Proved That Love Is Stronger than Social Norms

Show business icon Aaron and Sam Taylor-Johnson made the news when they married. Many believed the couple would not last due to their 23-year age gap. They recently celebrated ten years of blissful life, proving that love is more vital than social norms.

Aaron and Sam Taylor-Johnson’s romance remains one of the most unconventional in the entertainment industry. The couple first crossed paths in 2008 at an audition for Sam’s biopic, “Nowhere Boy,” where Aaron auditioned for the role of late singer John Lennon.

Although their first meeting appeared to be predestined, it almost did not happen. At the time, Aaron was filming the action-comedy “Kick-Ass” and was available to audition for only one day.

Coincidentally, that specific day was the only day Sam could not make it to the audition. However, fate was on the duo’s side, and they eventually had their encounter. Recalling the couple’s first meeting, the actor confessed:

“I remember it very, very clearly. I knew exactly what she was wearing. This white shirt that she still has, that I love. It definitely changed my life, though not in the way I expected.”

On the other hand, Sam explained that she was not expecting anything the day they met. But when she saw Aaron and how he gave a fantastic audition, she sensed there was something special about him.

Aaron was only 18 at the time, while Sam was 42. Still, the duo had an intense connection, and everyone on set could attest to it. Over the years, fans had speculated that the pair’s relationship was only possible because Sam was a family friend and knew Aaron when he was younger.

However, the claims appear to be baseless. There have been other claims and comments about the couple’s romance, especially due to the 23-year gap.

Aaron once labeled the attention as intrusive. But since he had been dealing with the same problem for years, he learned to let go instead of surrendering to a more aggressive reaction when asked questions he did not like.

While filming “Nowhere Boy,” Aaron and Sam kept their relationship strictly professional, even though the spark between them was visible. They focused on making a great movie, but in 2009, after they finished filming, Aaron did not want to waste more time. So he got down on one knee and asked Sam to marry him.

It is pertinent to note that at that point, the couple had never gone on a date or even kissed. Still, the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” director said yes! Reflecting on his proposal and engagement, Aaron said:

“I knew instantly with Sam that I had found my soulmate. I knew instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this person. I remember it very well, and a year to the day [after] I met her I proposed. I knew I wanted a family with her.”

In 2010, the year following Aaron and Sam’s engagement, the latter became pregnant with their first child. Despite being only 19 then, the young actor relayed that he was not scared. Aaron was already a stepfather to Sam’s two daughters from a previous marriage, which prepared him to be a great father to his kids.

On July 7, 2010, Aaron and his fiancée welcomed their first daughter, Wylda Rae, in London, and on January 18, 2012, almost two years later, their second daughter, Romy Hero, joined the family. Following the birth of their daughters, Aaron and Sam decided to seal their relationship.

After being engaged for three years, the couple finally walked down the aisle on June 21, 2012, in Somerset, West England, proving that age is nothing but a number.

Upon their marriage, Aaron and Sam decided to take each other’s surnames (which is why they bear Taylor-Johnson). Speaking about the reason for the decision, the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” actor explained:

“I just don’t see why women need to take the man’s name. I wanted to be a part of her just as much as she wanted to be a part of me.”

For Aaron, it was important to hyphenate the surnames because, according to him, it felt beautiful to see Taylor-Johnson attached to his name, especially in a professional context.

Since Aaron and Sam tied the knot, the couple has kept their romance under the wraps. However, one certain thing is that the pair enjoy a stable relationship. The director made this known during an interview with The Guardian, noting that the stability in their union was enabling her to focus on projects.

Sam further confessed that Aaron was not only a great husband but an excellent and attentive father. Being a doting dad is quite an easy task for the dad of two. He once revealed that he gets more fulfillment from being a father than a movie star.

According to Taylor, his family and relationship with Sam makes him feel safe, secure and loved. Since he walked down the aisle, the award-winning actor has not gotten over how amazing his wife is and how much of a positive impact she is on him and their kids.

In a 2017 interview, the “Kick-Ass” star stated that Sam was a great role model to the family, especially their children. To him, the mom of four was one of the strongest and most independent women he had ever seen.

On the other hand, Sam feels the same way about her husband. Unfortunately, the couple’s amazing thoughts about each other have not stopped the negative comments about their relationship due to their age difference. However, Sam pays no attention to them. In her words:

“If I gave a second thought to other people, I would be the unhappiest person, probably still in a miserable marriage.”

The director considers her husband as a man with an “old soul,” a statement that Aaron once agreed to. On the other hand, the actor calls his wife a young soul.

The lovebirds are focused on enjoying their marital bliss rather than channeling their attention to the public chatter surrounding their relationship, as they have always done from the beginning of their romance.

Aaron and Sam hope to spend forever with each other, seeing that the couple recently celebrated their tenth anniversary and marked the occasion by renewing their wedding vows in front of friends and family.
