Alan Cumming Sports a Blue Kilt as He Promotes His Hometown’s Local Cinema

Alan Cumming, the acclaimed actor, has consistently embraced his Scottish heritage. He recently used Instagram to support the local cinema in his hometown, donning a sophisticated blue kilt for the occasion.

Scottish actor Alan Cumming took to social media on Tuesday to endorse The Birks Cinema, located in his hometown. The 58-year-old actor posted nostalgic photographs of himself, dressed in a fashionable blue kilt, from the opening gala a decade ago.

Alongside the post, Cumming shared a brief story about The Birks Cinema, revealing his role as its patron. He elaborated on the cinema’s challenges in recent years, expressing concern for its future.

Cumming further detailed the steps he had taken to protect the cinema’s existence and urged others to show support by either making donations through their website or simply by watching a movie there.

During an interview, Cumming, the host of the murder mystery reality show called “The Traitors,” discussed his attire and the importance of embracing his Scottish heritage. He expressed his fondness for kilts and tartans, finding them captivating and deeply authentic.

According to the actor, these traditional garments hold symbolic significance for wealth and style and are the perfect choice for hosting the show in an ancient castle.

As an expression of their love for their heritage and to commemorate their 2021 ‘Lost in Scotland’ tour, Alan Cumming and Miriam Margoyles had a tartan created in their names.

The tartan, named “Aliam,” is a combination of their names and symbolizes the interwoven threads of tartan cloth, reflecting their journey of reconnecting with their Scottish roots during the tour.

During an interview, Cumming expressed his deep connection to his Scottish identity and remarked that he felt a profound sense of pride due to the presence of a cultural figure like the legendary Scottish poet Robert Burns.

In 2009, Cumming was honored with an (Order of the British Empire) OBE during the Queen’s birthday honors list, marking fourteen years ago from the present time.
