Steve Nash’s ex-wife, Alejandra Amarilla, lived in several countries growing up due to her father’s work. She wishes for her children to have the same experience, despite being divorced from her husband.

Steven Nash played several seasons in the NBA, making his success in the sports industry while under the Phoenix Suns. He later became the Brookly Nets’ head coach.

Throughout his career in the league, Nash gained support from basketball fans all over the world. However, his primary support came from his loving family, including his ex-wife, Alejandra Amarilla.

Alejandra Amarilla Was Born in Paraguay

Although born in Paraguay, Amarilla constantly moved from country to country while growing up. Her father and inspiration, who worked for the United Nations, held a job title that assigned him to different places with his family.

This allowed Amarilla’s knowledge of different cultures, traditions, and music to expand and impact the person she is today. While others may despise living in different countries, she found significance in her experience.

“I loved traveling with my family growing up,” she said. “There is something to be said about being a ‘world citizen.'”

Among all the lands she stepped foot on, Nicaragua became her favorite place due to the circumstances the country was in while they were there. The people, the beaches, the energy, and the strong sense of community amidst a then-difficult time won her heart.

Now with a family of her own, Amarilla tries to raise her children the same way. She traveled with them as much as possible and planned to live internationally, so her kids could experience different cultures.

Alejandra Amarilla Is Known for Working on Documentary Films

Amarilla is a producer who has worked on the documentary films “Unleashing Creativity” and “Landfill Harmonic,” which paid homage to her homeland, Paraguay. In a previous interview, Amarilla revealed that the documentary focused on “transforming and empowering the lives of the children and their communities.”

Included in the film is the story of a non-profit organization, “Sounds of the Earth,” that creates instruments from recycled materials.

In creating the film, Amarilla hoped to show how small and simple things can significantly influence the lives of others, especially kids in Paraguay. Whereas in other parts of the world, fundamental rights and freedom are necessities, in others, they are luxuries.

Alejandra Amarilla’s Family

Amarilla first met the NBA star in 2001 and tied the knot four years later on June 11, 2005. Their marriage produced three children, twin daughters, Bella and Lola, on October 14, 2004, and a son, Matteo, in 2010. However, their union only lasted five years before they announced their separation, a day after Matteo was born.

In September 2016, Steve Nash married Lilla Frederick, a former Team USA volleyball player. Frederick has been an athlete for years, even representing her school Pepperdine University in the past.

According to Amarilla’s husband, they had already been living separately in the months leading up to their announcement. Although their relationship did not work out, the former couple remains committed to raising their kids in a loving and healthy environment. Nash said:

“I want only good things for Ale going forward. I’m focused on ensuring that our children understand how much they’re adored and loved by us as they continue to adjust to these changes.”

Alejandra Amarilla Had a Custody Battle with Her Ex Husband

The couple’s separation led to a custody battle that made headlines for months. Amarilla claimed that her ex-husband banned her from moving to Los Angeles so he wouldn’t have to pay child support.

Further reports later claimed that Nash refused to pay child support as his former lover had already walked away with millions in divorce settlements. Nash was reportedly trying to stop her from spoiling their children excessively.

Months later, the couple’s custody battle ended, although the terms have not been disclosed to the public. Since their messy legal dispute, Amarilla has stayed away from the public eye and is living a quiet life with her children.

Meanwhile, her ex-husband has moved on and walked down the aisle a second time. In September 2016, Steve Nash married Lilla Frederick, a former Team USA volleyball player. Frederick has been an athlete for years, even representing her school Pepperdine University in the past.

The couple’s personal lives remain private, with details of their first meeting undisclosed. However, it was reported that they were engaged in 2016.

In 2017, Frederick and Nash welcomed their first child together, a son named Luca Sun. Two years later, another blessing came in the form of their daughter, Ruby Jean.

Nash is one of the many NBA stars who had public divorces. Among them is Michael Jordan, who was once married to Juanita Jordan.

During their relationship, Michael and Juanita had three beautiful children, Jeffery Jordan, Marcus Jordan, and Jasmine Jordan. However, their love story was nowhere near perfect. When their eldest child, Jeffery, was born, the legendary athlete refused to accept paternity.

Juanita even sought help from legal counsel before her ex-husband accepted fatherhood. Despite how their relationship began, Michael and Juanita ended up tying the knot in Las Vegas and divorcing several years later.
