Basketball prospect Amari Bailey has made headlines for his impressive athleticism and ability on the court, but his mother, Johanna Leia, is almost as famous as him.

Talent runs in Johanna Leia’s family. As a former basketball player, it was only natural for her son, Amari Bailey, to love basketball, too. However, she achieved fame as a model and is now a Fashion Nova ambassador.

Her love life has attracted much attention after being linked to Canadian rapper Drake and NBA star Ja Morant. Still, her family life is her priority.

MEET JOHANNA LEIA

College basketball fans might know Leia as the mother of UCLA Bruins shooting guard Amari Bailey. However, she already had a highly successful career before her son began attracting everyone’s attention.

Leia is a model who used to work for Ford and Wilhelmina. She and Amari were cast members of the Lifetime reality TV series “Bringing Up Ballers.”

Nowadays, Leia has a large social media following: almost 400,000 on Instagram. Her popularity on the platform got her a deal with the clothing brand Fashion Nova, and she is now one of its ambassadors.

Everything Leia and Amari have accomplished is outstanding, especially because the promising basketball player has proudly stated that his mom raised him and his younger sister on her own.

THE FATHER OF JOHANNA LEIA’S CHILDREN

Johanna Leia shares son Amari and daughter Savvy with Aaron Bailey. Aaron is a retired NFL player who played wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts from 1994 to 1998. He caught 67 passes for 1,040 yards and six touchdowns.

Colts die-hard fans probably remember Aaron for the final seconds of the 1995 AFC Championship game against the Steelers. The Colts were down four points with enough time for just one play (only five seconds).

Quarterback Jim Harbaugh threw a Hail Mary pass, but it bounced off Steelers’ safeties. The football hit Aaron’s chest and legs as he fell to the ground.

Seconds later, he stood up with the ball in his hands, and Colts fans celebrated the touchdown. However, the referees considered he never had control over the ball before it hit the ground, so the play was ruled incomplete.

Coming back to Aaron and Leia’s relationship, it is unclear how long they were together, but their youngest kid, Savvy, was born on May 24, 2014. Aaron and Leia are no longer together.

Savvy also has an Instagram account that Leia most likely handles. It has photos and images of the eight-year-old child playing soccer, skiing, surfing, and doing many other activities with her friends and family.

Amari is the main star of the family, though. As of January 2022, when he played for Sierra Canyon with LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, and Dwyane Wade’s son, Zaire Wade, he was ranked as the No. 2 senior in the States.

Even before playing high school basketball, Amari committed to DePaul University in Chicago. He changed his mind shortly after and promised to go to UCLA as a freshman.

Eight months later, he de-committed and decided to take more time before making up his mind. In February 2021, although he had offers from Kansas, Alabama, and DePaul, Amari committed to UCLA again.

JOHANNA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH DRAKE

Amari’s promising basketball career might make the most headlines, but Johanna Leia’s love life has also turned some heads. In late 2021, she was linked to rapper Drake.

In October 2021, the “Popstar” singer took a mysterious woman on a date at an empty Dodger Stadium. Different sources later discovered it was Leia. Drake and Leia reportedly dated for a few months but called it quits in late October 2021.

Five months later, rumors about a possible romance between Leia and Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant were on the Internet. Fans noticed that the 22-year-old point guard began liking Leia’s posts on social media.

She then followed him on Instagram and began attending some of his games. In March 2022, Morant supposedly flew her to Denver for one of his games against the Nuggets. It is unclear if Morant and Leia are still dating.

JOHANNA HAS A VERY CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH HER SON

Single or not, Leia’s priority is her family. She has a beautiful bond with Amari and frequently shares posts supporting her son on social media. He once admitted the Fashion Nova ambassador did everything for him, adding that:

“[My mom] played basketball when she was in high school. She’s a lefty, just like me. So, she was with me going to the gym, working on my shooting stroke.

Amari confessed Leia taught him multiple mental games, how to deal with others, and understand the game within the game.

To show his gratitude towards his mom, Amari used his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) money to buy her a 2022 Porsche Cayenne for Christmas in 2021. He said it was the least he could do for his mom, but he is also determined to look out for Savvy and his grandmom.

The basketball player admitted he wanted to buy another car for Leia in the future, and she would be surprised with it. The most shocking aspect of the gift is that he bought it when he was only 17. What a promising career!
