He was married thrice before meeting his current wife. His first marriage was to Sharon Farrell, a union that barely lasted a year. Following his divorce, the actor married his second wife, Brenda Scott, in 1965 and divorced the following year.

However, they soon reconciled and married again in 1968, only to divorce in 1969. A few years later, they reconciled and married again in 1973, but the third time was not a charm, and they divorced again in 1978, this time for good.

He married Lowe in 1986, and the pair remained together until his demise. His love life has been a topic of speculation for a long time, but what truly made headlines was his involvement with actress Karyn Kupcinet, who he dated between 1962 and November 28, 1963.

The authorities disclosed that Prine and Kupcinet began getting targeted with anonymous death threats in the form of letters from magazine cutouts. They would later discover that Kupcinet had been the unknown sender after they found her fingerprints on the sticky side of a piece of tape used to make the threatening letters.

She had been sending the letters herself, hoping it would mend their broken romance. Sadly, on Thanksgiving Day, she was found dead in her apartment.
