Arnold Schwarzenegger Spends Christmas with Mom on His Mind — He Gave Flowers Cared for Her till End

During 2022’s Christmas Day, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared an Instagram post where he celebrated the holiday and remembered someone special to him. The image he included showed his late mother, Aurelia Schwarzenegger, smiling as she stood next to a Christmas tree.

The star hoped his fans had a Merry Christmas and revealed that the photo taken of his mother was taken years ago. He also noted how the same picture was shared in his newsletter.

Arnold explained that the candles on the tree were real ones. The actor, who grew up singing around a tree on Christmas, concluded his post by urging his followers to sign up for the newsletter using as link he’d shared and to prepare some cocoa or schnapps as they read through his content.

Arnold Is Still Grateful for His Childhood No Matter What

In Arnold’s 2013 book, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” he recalled how he’d grown up poor. His family had no shower, plumbing, and flushable toilet, as they used a chamber pot, while the stove supplied the heat in their room.

The actor recalled how his mother used to make them attend Sunday Mass at a catholic church. However, because Arnold was fearless, Aurelia sent him weekly to buy vegetables at the farmer’s market.

The star would walk through a dark forest to get to the market, and the trip earned him five schillings. When he was older, his mother told him that she and his father foraged through the countryside collecting butter and sugar from different farms.

The “Terminator” star remembered how they celebrated Christmas Day by lighting candles on the tree. The Christmas tree had toys underneath, and the family held hands and sang “Heil’ge Nacht” in German or “Silent Night” while his father played the trumpet.

The actor had his childhood in Austria and initially thought the town he grew up in was boring and would complain about it. However, when he saw it today, he realized that he grew up in luxury with a castle across the street.

Sadly, over the years, Arnold started losing his parents, with his father going first. When the parent was gone, the former governor of California had to take on a more considerable responsibility concerning his mother.

Arnold Cared for His Mother after His Father’s Death

Arnold’s late father worked as a police officer in Austria until he died in 1972. The star discovered his father had a stroke during a call with his mother and rushed home to Austria to stay with them.

When he arrived, his father was in a hospital and recognized Arnold but couldn’t speak. The ordeal was terrible for the actor, but his ex-wife, Maria Shriver, bonded with Aurelia after losing his father, and they got along.

Arnold’s children, who their grandmother spoiled, called her “omi.” For Mother’s Day, the star would pick flowers for his mother, and they reminded him of home; in the 1970s, she visited him in the springtime.

During one of those visits, his mother felt nauseous and dizzy, leading him to take her to a hospital. It was determined that she had a heart murmur, but when Arnold urged her to get the surgery, Aurelia refused, saying:

“When God wants to take me, I’m ready to go.”

Aurelia didn’t know that there was a lot of truth in her statement, but the circumstances showed how bonded she had been to her late husband. The last place Arnold’s mother visited would also be her resting place.

Arnold’s Reaction after His Mother Died While Visiting His Late Father’s Grave

In August 1998, it was revealed that Aurelia had died at age 76. Arnold’s mother was visiting her late husband’s Weiz gravesite when she had a heart attack and fainted before a helicopter took her to a hospital in Graz, Austria.

The actor’s mother passed away at the hospital four days before her birthday. Speaking to a local Austrian newspaper, the star revealed how he was doing after losing his last living parent, with him stating:

“With the loss of my mother, my world has fallen apart.”

Arnold’s family buried Aurelia next to his father, reuniting them one last time in a sad but romantic way. On July 30, 2022, the star shared several throwback images of him with his father and noted how she would’ve celebrated 100 years that day.

He described her as the best and shared he’d always love her. Arnold revealed he couldn’t explain how much she’d meant to him, and that’s why he gave her credit for how far he went in life.

The actor said Aurelia showed him the importance of having a clean house, unconditional love, patience, and how to make the perfect schnitzel. He urged his fans to tell their mothers how much they meant to them.
