Naomi Judd was an incredibly famous American country singer. She and her daughters also formed a band called The Judds. They sang together for some years, but they weren’t always close.

Last year, Judd passed away, and her daughters talked about what it was like to lose her. A year after her death, Ashley has shared a tribute to her mother on the anniversary of her death, while her sister has remained notably silent.

Ashley recently wrote a piece about living for the past year without her mother’s love and guidance. She explained that she had to have her first birthday earlier this month without her mother.

The young woman admitted she had gone to a store where her mother had gone to select birthday cards. She found the cards a mother would give her daughter and tried to imagine which one her mother would give her.

Ashley reminisced about birthdays gone by when her mother would recount her birth story, talking about how it felt to hold her for the first time and what a pleasure she had been as a baby.

Judd’s daughter also mentioned that she had been surrounded by her mother’s belongings in the past week and felt a sense of fortitude looking at strands of her hair in an old brush or reading her diary entries from the 90s.

Ashley expressed her sadness at all the hardships her mother had to face during her life. She spoke of Judd’s first sexual assault at only four years old until the rapes about which Judd spoke openly.

Ashley then mentioned that in honor of April being the anniversary of her mother’s death and Sexual Assault Awareness month, she would accept the Lifetime Igniting Impact Award on her mother’s behalf.

Ashley hopes to create a world in which nobody is bought, sold, or exploited in the way that so many people are. She mentioned this was her way of keeping her mother’s legacy alive through the ages.

Apart from the beautiful piece that Ashley wrote in her mother’s honor for a publication, she also shared two posts on her Instagram profile to mark her mother’s anniversary and talked about her feelings.

On Ashley’s birthday on April 19, she shared a photo of her birth announcement, which contained her mother’s handwriting and recollection of what it was like to bring Ashley into the world.

She also shared a photo of herself with her birthday cake and said it was a stark reminder that a year ago on that day, her mother was 11 days away from a death caused by a suicide that rocked their family.

Ashley recalled how her mother would always tell her how she looked when she was born and that she was so sweet her mother had to swat people’s hands away because they wanted to touch her all the time.

Judd’s daughter then talked about her last birthday with her mom, saying she did not have much energy and the celebrations were muted but no less beautiful than all those that came before.

Then, on the anniversary of her mother’s death, Ashley once again took to Instagram to share her feelings. She shared a photo carousel of excerpts from her written piece, and she expanded on her thoughts in the caption.

She mentioned that she loved her mother and was grateful for those who had been there for her during the most challenging time celebrating her birthday without her mother for the first time.

Did Judd Include Her Daughter in Her Will?

Although Ashley has been vocal about grieving her mother’s loss over the last year, her sister has been notably silent. Both daughters were left out of their mother’s will when she died.

Instead of her daughters, Judd named her husband, Larry Strickland, executor of her estate. She will state that her husband was free to do whatever he saw fit with the properties and other assets that Judd left.

Strickland can use the money and assets in any way he wants to, which means that if he so chooses, he can give some of Judd’s estate to her daughters, although there has yet to be any indication as to whether or not he has done so.
