Across the country, fans of the Great British Bake Off tuned in to the latest episode of the show, and all had a similar reaction when the technical challenge was announced.
In the latest episode, the theme was ‘Party Week’ and the bakers were first challenged to make sausage rolls. After completing the bake, they moved on to the technical challenge.
There, they were challenged to make a caterpillar cake. This led to fans all making the same joke.
The fans all referenced the drama between M&S and Aldi, when they were taken to court over their caterpillar cake, named Cuthbert. M&S believed it infringed on their copyright over Colin the Caterpillar.
@MattMurkyfuture said: “Careful to copyright police may come out”. Meanwhile, @RebeccaDixon13 added: “@BritishBakeOff looking for a lawsuit from M&S with this technical…”
Meanwhile, @meledgerwood wrote: “”A chocolate caterpillar cake” I can’t wait to watch everyone dance around the fact they can’t actually give the cake it’s proper name.”
At the same time, @dpt2891 added: “oh oh m&s are calling their lawyers and throwing a tantrum already”. @bnedge then said: “I can feel the @marksandspencer lawyers gearing up to spring into action #GBBO #FreeCuthbert”.
Finally, @sophiesoaps8123 said: “Is bake off not gonna give us a name for their caterpillar cake?”
Afterwards, they moved on the show stopper challenge to make a non-beige buffet. Each contestant made a variety of different party foods for their challenge.
By the end of the show, it was between Matty and Josh for ‘Star Baker’ with Matty just winning due to his effort in the sausage roll challenge. Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Dan and Christy was competing to stay in.
However it was Christy who left the show as we head into the semi-finals next week.
