During an interview, America Ferrera discussed her monologue in the film, revealing that the director, Greta Gerwig, had mentioned it even before she read the script.

Gerwig had written it specifically for Ferrera, which was flattering yet created a pleasant pressure. Upon reading the monologue, Ferrera found it impactful and meaningful, and she felt honored to deliver such an authentic piece.

Ferrera shared that filming the monologue spanned more than two days. Part of it included a large scene with several characters, requiring multiple retakes for various angles. When asked about the number of takes, the actress humorously remarked it felt like 500, but she estimated it was around 30 to 50 complete runs from start to finish.
