Strictly Come Dancing was back on our screens on Saturday night with all its glitz and glamour.

The BBC dance contest aired its launch show last night (September 16) which saw 15 brand new famous faces make their debut on the dancefloor. The 21st series of the multi-award-winning TV show, which was awarded winner of Best Talent Show at the National TV Awards, welcomed back hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, along with judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke.

Last night’s Strictly, which was pre-recorded, finally let viewers in on which celebrity has been paired with which professional dancer. And, fans were delighted to see the likes of Love Island’s Zara McDermott partnered with Graziano Di Prima, Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin and Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, reports M.E.N.

The show also opened with a dramatic performance from the professional dancers, who also performed alongside the judges in a separate routine dedicated to fellow pro dancer Amy Dowden, who couldn’t be there due to undergoing chemotherapy after her cancer diagnosis.

The launch show also included a beautiful tribute to the late Len Goodman, in which Tess, Claudia, the judges and professional dancers remembered the ballroom icon and former head judge, who passed away in April this year.

At the end of the show, the celebrities and professional dancers performed their first group number of the series to finish the launch show in style, giving viewers there first sneak peek at the celebrities’ dancing skills. But, whilst we didn’t get to see the judges in action, as no critiques or scores were giving during the launch show, viewers still managed to get distracted by Shirley Ballas thanks to her flamboyant outfit.

Ballroom champion Shirley, who became Strictly’s head judge in 2017 following the departure of Len Goodman, donned a bright yellow outfit with feathered sleeves, which saw viewers compare her to Sesame Street character ‘Big Bird’.

Taking to Twitter, @SamRandomNumber tweeted: “Saw Shirley’s outfit for the first time, screamed out loud. #Strictly,” as @corby_tun asked: “Has Shirley been inspired by Big Bird?,” @LucyDBLanguage joked: “Who wore it better? Shirley or Big Bird? #Strictly,” and @Imperfect77 echoed: “Big bird springs to mind #shirley.”

But other’s were in full support of the judge, especially after her performance at 63-years-old. @ElaineD24871541 tweeted: “I like Shirley’s outfit,” as @ebrannigan typed: “Holy moley how do I vote for Shirley, she sizzles,” and @therealhugsy1 said: “Shirley showing everyone why she’s head judge, she’s absolutely amazing!!.”
