It is often said that behind every successful man is a strong woman. That statement can be accurately applied to Snoop Dogg and his mother, Beverly Tate, who sadly passed away last year. The award-winning rapper acknowledges that his mother’s positive influence has had a long-lasting effect on him.

Tate, who gave birth to the 17-time Grammy-nominated artist on October 20, 1971, took her last breath on October 24, 2021. She had been hospitalized for at least five months, but not much information was given regarding the cause of her hospitalization or updates on her condition.

This was despite her son being very vocal about his mother on social media in the lead-up to her death. Instead of talking about her condition, Snoop Dogg instead focused on asking fans for help with prayer. He also sought to show his mother his love and gratitude for being a wonderful and loving mom to him and his siblings.

Snoop Dogg announced the passing of his mother via Instagram, where he posted a tribute to her saying, “Thank u god for giving me an angel for a mother, TWMA (sic).” The rapper’s father, Vernell Varnado, asked for prayers for their family to help them with the grieving and healing.

The cause of death was not revealed to the public. What is known from Snoop Dogg’s social media posts is that his mother had been in hospital for quite some time. The rapper had asked fans to help him pray for his mother on multiple occasions, a request which many fans, including fellow celebrities, took heed of.

Snoop Dogg Remembering His Mom

When Tate was still alive and battling on the hospital bed, her son posted a series of dedications to her on Instagram. A post from May 7, 2021, the earliest days of her hospitalization, showed Tate with her three sons with the caption: “The queen wit her 3 boys. We love you mama (sic).”

A day later, he posted a photo of himself and his mother with another touching message that thanked her for having him. He pointed out that she could have given up at some point but endured the hardships and raised a family. On July 25, the rapper posted another picture, again with his brothers and mom.

However, this time, it was a sad picture as it showed the three brothers surrounding their mother while she was lying in her hospital bed. The caption informed fans that he and his brother had gone to see their mother, who had let them know she was still fighting by opening her eyes.

Snoop Dogg Said His Mom Raised him to Respect Women

Tate was one of the most influential people in Snoop Dogg’s life, which is seen in how he listened to his mother’s advice. In one instance that caught the attention of many, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper gave some brutal criticism of CBS anchor Gayle King.

The newscaster had found herself on the wrong side of Snoop Dogg after mentioning Kobe Bryant’s legal issues during an interview with Lisa Leslie, a longtime close friend of Bryant. The interview occurred shortly after the basketball star’s untimely passing in a helicopter crash, and many people were still mourning.

However, after a phone call from his mother made him realize the harshness of his words, Snoop Dogg later apologized for the barrage directed at King. Even though his mother did not directly tell him he was wrong, pointing out that she raised him better made him feel like he had abused his power and had to make things right.

Finally, the unusually high number of posts by Snoop Dogg in the lead-up to his mom’s passing may have been a sign that he had a feeling his mother’s days were coming to an end. In her final days, the rapper showed that his mother was loved and also gave love. She played a significant role in making him the man he is today.
