Billy Joel Celebrates 8th Anniversary with 32-Years-Younger Wife — He Became a ‘Homey’ for Her Kids

American singer Billy Joel is famous for his hit songs like “Piano Man,” “Vienna,” “Uptown Girl,” and “Just The Way You Are.” He began his career in the music industry in the 1970s and has since enjoyed enormous success.

At 74, Joel has decided the time has come for him to step away from his music career and focus instead on his wife and children, who he has always been responsible for raising. His family is of the utmost importance to the musician.

Joel and his wife, Alexis, celebrated their wedding anniversary on July 4, 2023. The couple marked the occasion by sharing a photo of them smiling casually on Joel’s Instagram page.

His marriage to Alexis is Joel’s fourth, and he has come to understand what jeopardizes a marriage and how to fix it. Talking about touring and being away for long periods, Joel acknowledged that it was unsuitable for a marriage, which is why he no longer does it. He quipped:

“So I became a homey.”

Alexis and Joel have welcomed two daughters together, and although his fans adore him, Joel now dedicates his time to his wife and children. Alexis and Joel tied the knot in 2015 after meeting in 2009 and welcomed their daughters, Della Rose and Remy Anne. Joel is also the father to Alexa Ray, whose mother is Christie Brinkley.

While Joel stopped releasing music in the late ’90s, he continued touring throughout his life. However, he has also slowed that aspect of his career down, performing only one show a month at Madison Square Garden.

Although Joel and Alexis have been together for a long time, and the public knows they have welcomed two daughters together, the rest of their relationship is mainly kept private, with the couple never sharing details about their marriage.

Joel has recounted the night he met Alexis on many occasions. He recalled being at the same restaurant in Huntington, New York, and not being able to take his eyes off Alexis the entire evening.

He finally knew he had to talk to her and introduced himself. Alexis gave Joel her number, and he went back to his table. When he had finished his meal, he called Alexis, who was still sitting at the table across from him, and asked if she could drive him home.

Alexis, who worked as an executive at Morgan Stanley on Wall Street until just before she married Joel, drove Joel home that night but declined his offer of listening to him play piano for her.

However, it all worked out for Joel as the pair married in a surprise ceremony on July 4, 2015. The couple invited their family and friends to their annual Fourth of July celebration at Joel’s Oyster Bay estate and surprised them with the celebration being their wedding.

Alexis was then pregnant with the couple’s first daughter, and Joel’s eldest daughter made the wedding speech. The couple ended the night with the usual Fourth of July traditions like sky lanterns and fireworks.

Their first daughter, Della Rose, was born in August that year, and two years later, in October 2017, she became a big sister to Remy Anne. Joel and Alexis keep their daughters primarily out of the spotlight, but Joel has shared some sweet snaps of the girls over the years.

Joel and Alexis both stepped back from their careers when they became parents so they could focus primarily on raising their children. Joel was keen to do things differently in this marriage than what he had done before. He confirmed that he was able to because of Alexis, saying:

“Sure, it’s different, but it’s different because of who she is. She didn’t have to give up her job; she wanted to… I’ve always taken out the trash and changed diapers. I don’t want staff around me. I want to walk around in my boxers if I feel like it. So we’re pretty much on our own. I do the cooking, and she does the cleaning. It’s easy.”

While Joel’s two youngest daughters are still far too young to have carved a definite path in their lives, his eldest daughter has followed in his footsteps, becoming a classical pianist and singer-songwriter. The Joels are a talented family indeed.
