Bobby Brown’s Wife Alicia Etheredge Once Convinced Him to Marry Whitney Houston

Alicia and Brown had been through thick and thin; he was in a sad place after his divorce, and she witnessed him deal with heartbreak and work at getting back to his music and what he loved.

Bobby credits a lot to Alicia for helping him heal; she supported him through his life transformation and his journey back to his passion for music and love for himself.

“She makes me want to live,” he said, explaining that he was a better person because of her and, in turn, a better father and partner.

ALICIA ETHEREDGE KNEW BOBBY BROWN LONG BEFORE THEY MARRIED

Before the fame and glamour of being in New Edition and his successful solo career, Alicia knew Bobby when he was just an eighteen-year-old kid trying to become a star.

They met at what Bobby called a “dance place” during an interview, although they were just friends. Bobby invited Alicia to his first wedding with Whitney Houston as a long-time friend.

But when the big moment came, Bobby got cold feet and locked himself in the bathroom. No one could get him out except for Alicia, from his groomsmen to his brother.

During an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the couple and show host Kelly Clarkson shared laughs as Alicia and Bobby reminisced about the special day.

She spoke to him through the door, assuring him everything would be okay. She got him to listen to her, and soon he was out of the bathroom and down the aisle. Alicia went to Culver City Senior High in 1991 before enrolling at Howard University.

After almost three years of dating, Bobby proposed to Alicia at the annual Funk Fest at Metro Park in Jacksonville, Florida.

He brought her on stage in front of a sea of fans; as she held their son, he got down on one knee and popped the question.

The crowd cheered for the happy couple as they sweetly embraced and shared a kiss. After Bobby’s first marriage, the then-friends had lost touch; years later, they reunited, and sparks were flying.

They chose to get married in Hawaii; Bobby had a concert with New Edition in Honolulu, and, less than 24 hours later, he was marrying Alicia on a Monday.

They were surrounded by friends and family, including his children, Landon, La’Princia, and Bobby Jr. Their firstborn son together, Cassius, was also present.

Bobby wore a red suit and matching Adidas sneakers with Cassius. The bride walked down the aisle with four flower girls; their honeymoon was the rest of the New Edition tour.

Bobby’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was not in attendance; sources reported that they were not in a good place at the time.

After almost ten years of marriage, Alicia shared that she did not feel threatened by the love Bobby had for his late ex-wife and the connection they shared.

She had reached a place of understanding, Whitney and Bobby had their time, and it was special while it lasted, but Alicia was “the yin to his yang.”

After they reunited after his first divorce, Alicia sensed something in him had died, and she was committed to helping him recover. It was not long before his love of music was rekindled.

Some of the most important people in Alicia’s life were Bobby, her children, and her sister, Kim. Kim Etheredge and long-time friend Wendi Levy Kaaya launched a brand of hair products called Mixed Chicks.

Wendi and Kim came up with the idea to start a business that created hair products to help women with curly hair care for it. In 2014 they released their leave-in conditioner, which quickly became their best-selling product.

Alicia and Bobby’s firstborn son was born in 2009; his parents loved sharing videos of him singing and performing, proclaiming him a natural-born performer.

In 2016 they welcomed their first daughter, Bodhi, and had their youngest daughter, Hendrix in 2016. The family of five created the routine of watching “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday evenings, Bobby joking that he would surprise his kids by appearing on the show.

In the 2000s, Alicia signed as a part of Bobby’s team, becoming his manager and admitting the couple has not been without the challenges of mixing business and pleasure.

They were still friends when she became his manager, and it was through hard work, dedication, and patience that they were able to find a rhythm.

She was in his corner, helping him cut negative people out of his life. When they transitioned from friends to partners, spirituality became significant for them.

Brown shared that they did not subscribe to a particular religion but believed in a higher power. They shared the same values, with faith at the center of their marriage.

ALICIA ETHEREDGE’S HEALTH ISSUES

Alicia suffered health scares on separate occasions after having seizures. After the funeral of Bobby’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, Alicia had a seizure and was taken to the hospital.

It was reported that she could walk with little assistance and was surrounded by the help of her husband when the seizure happened.

However, her other seizure happened while she was in the couple’s hotel room in Florida, celebrating New Edition’s anniversary.

Bobby was at sound check when he was notified of his wife’s condition; she was later hospitalized in Orlando. Bobby tweeted about the frightening news and asked concerned fans to keep the family in their prayers.

After the journey, Alicia and Bobby have had over multiple decades of friendship, romance, and children, their TV show, “Bobby Brown: Every Little Step”, seems befitting.

The series aired in 2022 and had 12 episodes, documenting the RnB superstar’s second chance at life and love with his wife and their beautiful family.
