Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder Is ‘The Most Spectacular Thing’ for Her Parents

Hollywood couple Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder welcomed their first child, a daughter named Bodhi Soleil Somerhalder, in 2017. The family keeps her hidden from the public eye despite being over the moon about her.

In May 2017, Reed and Somerhalder made a well-thought-out announcement that they were expecting after months of hiding the pregnancy, again showing their highly secretive nature.

The couple had been married for two years before they welcomed Bodhi, a name that is experiencing a rise in popularity among American parents. They started dating in 2014, got engaged, and married the following year in a busy few months for the two.

Bodhi’s Parents Try to Protect Her Privacy

Two years after Reed and Somerhalder married, their family of two became a family of three. On July 25, 2017, the Hollywood stars welcomed their first child, Bodhi Soleil Somerhalder, at 10:26 in the morning.

They had announced in May that they would be becoming parents soon. The sweet announcement was made via Instagram, with the soon-to-be parents sharing matching photos of Somerhalder kissing Reed’s baby bump. In her post, Reed delivered a special message to her unborn, saying:

“Hi Little One. I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it’s the strongest feeling I’ve ever felt. We’ve been sharing this body for quite some time, and we’ve already experienced so much together. We can’t wait to meet you… Love, your parents.”

Despite being proud parents, the loving pair keep their daughter away from the public eye as much as possible. It is 2022, five years after her birth, and fans are yet to get a full sighting of Bodhi. Instead, they get glimpses of a part of her body now and again; hence, her parents protect her fiercely.

Bodhi’s parents are famous, especially for their involvement in two of the most popular fantasy productions of the 21st century, “The Vampire Diaries” and “Twilight.” Both feature a stellar cast, including Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Twilight” and Nina Dobrev in “The Vampire Diaries.”

Bodhi’s Name Is Meaningful

Although Reed and Somerhalder have never discussed why they gave their daughter the names Bodhi and Soleil, the words are not typical American names and have a deeper meaning. Bodhi is related to the spirit of enlightenment in Buddhist traditions.

Therefore, broadly speaking, the name refers to wisdom or awakening. The second name, Soleil, is a word derived from the French language, which means the sun. Hence, her two names may refer to the awakening of the sun, a fitting name for someone Reed described as “just the most spectacular thing.”

Bodhi’s Parents Got Married Soon after They Started Dating

It seems Reed and Somerhalder were in a hurry to become husband and wife as they got engaged just six months after they began dating and married four months after the engagement.

After confirming they were dating toward the end of 2014, Somerhalder popped the question in January 2015, and Reed walked down the aisle in April 2015. While commemorating their fourth wedding anniversary, Reed acknowledged that she still has no idea if they did it right but has no doubt about the love they share.

As for Bodhi, it took two years before she came into their lives, but she has become the center of their lives. The parents are significantly in love with their daughter and spend as much time with her as they can. Although they are rarely seen together in public, the family sometimes goes out with their protected little human.

In February 2021, the three of them looked to be in high spirits when spotted hiking before visiting the grocery store. Somerhalder carried his daughter’s stuffed animal and a camera, perhaps to document the family outing.
