“The Real Housewives of New York City” said goodbye to an original cast member in 2011, to the chagrin of fans of the franchise. Jill Zarin was very candid about the fact that she had been fired by Bravo executives when leaving the show after Season 4. The reality star went on “Good Morning America” to talk about her departure, sharing, “It was a little jolting. I’ll be honest. It didn’t feel good. Nobody likes to not be asked back to the party” (via ABC News).

The star could take solace in the fact that she wasn’t singled out. The network also let stars Cindy Barshop, Alex McCord, and Kelly Bensimon go at the same time. Still reeling from the news, Zarin got super honest about her thoughts on the series that made her a star, telling the morning show, “There’s no question there was fighting going on. But I believe the format of the show encourages that. … The ratings encourage that. It’s a toxic environment. It took me months to come down from it.”

Despite stepping away as a main cast member, Zarin would return to the cast as a “friend of” a few years later, and she’s been part of “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.” Over a decade after her big “RHONY” exit, she told ET, “I left the show, and then the show fired me. It’s a semantics thing.”
