The sensationally famous Canadian singer Celine Dion, 55, best known for her legendary song “My Heart Will Go On,” which featured as part of the soundtrack of the iconic film “Titanic,” announced that she has been battling an extremely rare neurological condition. She broke the news last year on December 8.

In an emotional video she posted on her social media accounts, the talented songstress revealed that she has been living with Stiff Person Syndrom (SPS). According to John Hopkins Medicine, SPS affects one to two people in every million. The condition typically causes muscle spasms, rigidity, emotional distress, and heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli.

A John Hopkin’s SPS center doctor stated that the condition also leads to significant disability, severe pain, and falls. Additionally, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke posited that SPS is so rare that there is no cure and that it can sometimes take years to diagnose.

The musician has been battling the ailment for over a year now, and she revealed that the disorder affects her motor skills, such as walking. Additionally, her vocal abilities have been affected to the point where she is unable to sing at 100%.

Regarding her recovery journey, Celine’s sister, Claudette Dion, disclosed some updates about her beloved sibling’s rehabilitation. Amongst the revelations, Claudette said that another sister of theirs, Linda Dion, had moved in with Celine to help look after her as she recovers:

“When I call her and she’s busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she’s working hard. She’s listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible.”

However, at another point during the interview in which she shared health updates, Claudette divulged that they have struggled to find some medication that works. The concerned sister then said that Celine needs the most rest, which the singer has been prioritizing.

Though the trajectory of the status of her health has had its ups and downs, Claudette and the Dion family remain hopeful in Celine’s resilience and tenacity to get better. Claudette stated that instead of crying over her sister’s condition, she stays strong for her and continues to encourage her, and is confident that she will heal.
