Throughout 2020 and 2021, strict Coronavirus restrictions meant socialising was strictly limited. Some people died alone without their families at their sides as efforts were made by the public to try to control the virus’ spread. Despite this, members of the government and the Tory party held a number of social gatherings.
Viewers watching the real life events playout on the Channel 4 drama were left fuming as they shared their own stories of the sacrifices they made at the time.
@ScutcherM Tweeted: “A few mins in and I’m already full of rage! #Partygate #ToriesCorruptToTheCore.” @Prof_DFrench commented: “#Partygate it’s just shocking and we are 8 mins in!” @CaroLoganBooks wrote: “I spent my 30th birthday in 2020, 5 days before Boris Johnson’s birthday, alone. My husband was away doing covid support with the armed services and I’d been living alone for months. I had dinner with my parents over zoom. #Partygate.”
@NomadicWriter said: “Toughest testimonies are from those who talk about their losses. How their loved ones died alone without any family there to hold their hand, be there for them. So many families left emotionally scarred for life while Downing Street partied their arses off. #Partygate.”

@Jo_joblogs fumed: “Not sure I can make it through watching #Partygate So many families made sacrifices when loved ones were dying and won’t ever get that last hug they should have. Can’t express how angry this makes me and no doubt every other law abiding citizen. #ToriesOut.”
While @liamjmellor8 added: “People say “oh, are you still upset about this?” Am I still upset? You can bet your arse I am. I didn’t see any of my friends, except on zoom, I missed two family Christmas Days, while they did this. I am f***** furious. #Partygate.”
