We’re always on the lookout for something new – so when we saw that a brand new Korean eatery had opened at Doncaster’s Wool Market we knew that we had to give it a try. Clapping Seoul is a street food stall serving up all manner of Korean food, and it opened in Doncaster back in June.

So, one Friday night we decided to venture out and put it to the test. We’re not usually regular Korean food eaters so we were excited to try something new. We arrived early evening and the Wool Market was surprisingly quiet.

We browsed the menu and found that it included all sorts from corn dogs to rice bowls and kebabs. We quickly decided what we wanted and headed back outside to sit in the sunshine while eagerly awaiting our order.

Within no time at all our buzzer was going off and I was hurrying off to go and collect our piping hot food from the stall. It simply looked delicious, and smelt it too. I had opted for the teriyaki beef rice bowl.

This was made up of 24-hour, slow cooked soy marinated shredded beef brisket and salad on steamed rice smothered with Korean bbq sauce. I was surprised at the portion – there was a huge pile of rice as well as a generous helping of salad and some of the beef too.

The beef brisket was melt in the mouth and had a wonderful salty soy flavour. Paired with the sticky rice and fresh tangy salad it was perfect, and not too heavy. My one complaint was that there was perhaps too much rice compared to the amount of meat you got in a portion – so at the end you were left with a rather large chunk of plain rice and nothing to mix it in with.

My dining partner decided to go for the original clapping corn dog, something completely new to him.

The corn dog was described as a skewered premium beef sausage coated in a crispy batter and drizzled with ketchup and mustard. The only way you could describe it was like a hot dog wrapped in a doughnut.

We were convinced that it was like a pork hot dog sausage though and not the beef sausage that was described on the menu. The batter was nice and crispy and the ketchup and mustard helped to set it off. However, my dining partner was slightly disappointed that the sausage didn’t quite reach down to the end of the corn dog.

However, we both definitely agreed that our favourite part of our whole meal were the fries. We had opted for the teriyaki beef loaded fries. This was 24 hour, slow cooked soy marinated shredded beef brisket loaded with fries and salad.

The best way to describe them was utterly addictive. The fries were perfect, crispy yet fluffy and perfectly seasoned. The toppings too were delicious and created the perfect soft, crunchy and fresh mouthful. We had also opted for the sriracha mayo topping and that creamy element just really helped to bring it all together.

Overall, we really enjoyed our meal but there were just a few niggling things that just didn’t quite hit the spot. But in terms of value for money it’s definitely worth a try.
