Debbie Reynolds’ Only Grandchild Billie Lourd Inherited Her Beauty, Talent Motherly Devotion

Best known for “Singin’ In the Rain” and “Halloween,” Debbie Reynolds suffered the loss of her daughter at 60. She then passed away and could not provide her granddaughter with the life she thought she deserved.

Reynolds welcomed two children with her ex-husband and wanted to bring more children into the world in her second marriage. Unfortunately, she was unable to do so and suffered tragedies while trying.

and her husband, Eddie Fisher, welcomed their daughter, Carrie, in 1956. They then welcomed their son, Todd, in 1958. Reynolds and Eddie later divorced, and Reynolds moved on to her second husband, Harry Karl.

Karl and Reynolds married in 1960 and immediately began trying for a baby. Reynolds fell pregnant and miscarried in 1962. Reynolds said she wanted four children but lost her baby seven and a half months into the pregnancy.

The actress admitted that it took more than a year to physically and mentally recover from losing her child. When she finally felt ready, the couple started trying for a baby again, and she fell pregnant almost right away.

Tragically, the exact thing that happened to her during her first pregnancy with Karl happened the second time. She then decided that she was not going to try for another child again.

She decided to throw herself into her work and said being in movies helped distract her from her heartbreak. She also credited God with helping her overcome her grief after losing two children.

How Did Reynolds Become a Grandma?

Reynolds‘ daughter, Carrie, married Bryan Lourd, a Hollywood talent agent, and they welcomed their daughter, Billie Catherine Lourd, together. Reynolds was overjoyed when she became a grandmother and developed a close relationship with Billie.

Billie and Reynolds spent much of their time together. Billie once shared that she loved to sit with her grandmother in bed and watch shows that shared all the gossip and drama going on in Hollywood.

Yet they didn’t simply stay indoors every time they were together. They also did activities outdoors when they were with one another. Billie revealed that her grandmother loved bowling, and they often went bowling together.

Billie described Reynolds as “an incredible grandmother” who is funny and even said that her grandmother lived on the first story of her house for a while when she became too old to live on her own in a home.

Reynolds‘ daughter passed away from cardiac arrest on December 27, 2016. After her daughter’s passing, sources close to Reynolds said she wanted to be around to take care of her granddaughter.

Yet, tragically, the day after her daughter’s passing, she suffered a stroke and passed away, too. The source said it was unclear how much longer she would have lived if she didn’t have a stroke, but she was devoted to being around for Billie.

How Did Reynolds’ Granddaughter Overcome the Loss?

Billie followed in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps and became an actress. She starred in titles such as “Scream Queens” and “American Horror Story.” She is now the loving mother of a son named Kingston.

However, it was not easy for her to come to terms with losing her mother and her grandmother a day apart. The experience was heartbreaking for the young woman, and it took her a long time to overcome her grief. She admitted:

“It was brutal. It was really, really, brutal, and I still hesitate and stutter because it’s really hard for me.”

Billie still often shares snaps of her mother and grandmother on social media. One was an old photo of her grandmother, which a fan said resembled her very much. Another was of her and her mother when she was young.

In the caption, she said it had been six years since her mother and grandmother had passed away. She confessed that it felt like a shorter and longer time at the same time and said, “Life can be magical and griefy at the same time.” However, she found joy in the weeks before that.

In December last year, she welcomed a daughter of her own. She named the baby Jackson Joanne Lourd Rydell. Her daughter was born on December 12, 2022, and she posted a photo of her little hands to mark the occasion.
