‘Divinely Aging’: Gray-Haired Bette Midler Spotted on the Streets with Look-Alike Daughter Who Saved Her Marriage

Hollywood icon, screen legend, and artist Bette Midler, 77, is a loving mother of one, Sophie von Haselberg, 36, and a doting wife to Martin von Haselberg, 74. Midler and von Haselberg have been together for over 30 years and are still going strong.

However, their marriage, which soon reaches its fourth decade, has not always been smooth sailing and, in fact, endured a rough patch for some time. In the past, the “Wind Beneath My Wings” singer got candid about the issues she and her husband were facing at the time.

Midler disclosed how the couple used to fight a lot of the time. While taping a pre-recorded show in Britain in 2013, she exposed how she and her spouse, who tied the knot after only six weeks of meeting, eventually agreed to make a concerted effort to stop fighting and stay together for the sake of their daughter:

“We used to fight bitterly, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to raise a child, we wanted to raise a really wonderful child, we never wanted to hurt that kid in any way and we stayed together until it got better, and it did get better and it was really fascinating.”

After their marriage started to take a more positive and uplifting turn, Midler expressed how in awe she and von Haselberg were left. When they got to a place of healing, she admitted that when they both looked back on their time of disarray and disagreements, they were both grateful to have made it through.

In addition to their gratitude, Midler expressed that they had even been flabbergasted that they found themselves in such a dire position in the first place. The couple has been together for 38 years now.

Midler and von Haselberg married on December 16 in 1984, and remain happy in love. Of their long-standing union, Midler said:

“It’s like a thousand years in dog years. Our marriage is the oldest marriage in Hollywood. He really is the wind beneath my wings, he has looked after me for many, many years, he’s sacrificed a lot.”

As part of the ongoing Screen Actors Guild Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, which has been ongoing since May 2, a march was held on Tuesday morning, which saw a few famous faces taking a stand and joining in the fight against the growing decreased streaming residuals and Artificial Intelligence (AI) concerns. Among those faces was Midler and her look-alike daughter, Sophie.

Photographs of Midler protesting with her daughter alongside the union that represents over 160,000 actors surfaced on major news outlets. When her fans caught a glimpse of the fully gray-haired, white shirt, navy pants, and activewear shoe-wearing star, a flurry of comments referencing her age and appearance ensued.

Regarding what von Haselberg had to say about what has made his and his wife’s marriage lasting, he credits their agreement to put their family first.

The “Big Business” star was praised by her fans for still looking young after all these years. Many commented on how ageless the beauty looks, especially when standing next to her youthful daughter, who fans said looked like her twin sister:

One user who saw the photo made a comment about how Midler should dye her hair back blonde. However, another fan quickly came to Midler’s defense and responded:

“She can’t stay young for you. Sorry her aging is triggering you. She’s Divinely aging.”

Midler’s fans are not the only people who adore and think the world of her, as her loving husband, von Haselberg, has been her biggest cheerleader while remaining by her side for almost four decades. While speaking in a past interview, Midler revealed that before the lovebirds eloped in Las Vegas, she had actually been the one to propose to her husband.

Despite the turbulent phase they endured during a part of their marriage, which soon fizzled with the birth of Sophie, Midler praised von Haselberg as an incredible partner and father. Sophie would have to spend most of her childhood with her loving father because Midler would have to travel extensively during the peak of her career.

The actress spoke about how von Haselberg has been the best father ever to their beloved daughter. In another interview from two years ago, she divulged how von Haselberg taught Sophie many skills growing up.

Some of those skills include teaching her a foreign language and showing her how to cook. While speaking on all the ways he has supported her and their family, it became known that von Haselberg quit working as a commodities trader to raise Sophie and support his wife.

Regarding what von Haselberg had to say about what has made his and his wife’s marriage lasting, he credits their agreement to put their family first. The 74-year-old disclosed:

“There was a conscious effort to create exactly the life we have.”

The life they have created now is one where tranquility and happiness lead the way in their Millbrook house in New York.

The couple also shares a love of tai chi, and Midler reports on how peace is maintained in their household by continuing to remember that some fights are not worth all the trouble they cause.
