Following the incident, Brittney was found guilty of smuggling illegal drugs and sentenced to nine years in prison, but she was later released in a prisoner exchange.

The talented basketball player has always been open about her sexuality. After coming out as a lesbian in 2013, she landed an endorsement deal with Nike the following year and ultimately became the first openly gay athlete.

Johnson told Cosmopolitan that she fell in love with an individual and was following her heart, noting she walked down the aisle because she wanted to fight for her love.

Johnson gave birth to twin girls just five months after ending her short-lived marriage to Brittney—she was 24 weeks pregnant at the time. The children, Ava Simone and Solei Diem were born prematurely on October 12, 2015.

A few months before Johnson welcomed her twins, she had requested spousal support from Brittney. However, the judge declined her request. Still, the judge’s decision didn’t seem to affect her, as she said she felt relieved that the situation was coming to an end.
