A man has survived a dramatic crash in Sydney’s inner suburbs after crashing his car off a rocky cliff and onto the road below.
The man was lucky to be alive after the Hyundai i20 plunged at least 12 metres. Among the wreckage was a Lotto ticket.
The man in his 70s was visiting his friend Sylvia Sagi in Glebe around 11am, and despite living locally decided to drive instead of walking.
Sagi said the pair were meeting to head to a doctor’s appointment – instead, the man’s car went over the edge of the cliff on Darghan Street, smashing onto Railway Street below, where he was trapped.
The car was left a crumpled mess, but the man was able to be freed from the wreckage and treated by paramedics in a stable condition.
He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where his friend Sagi is meeting him.
“He fell over yesterday, hit his head, and he should have gone to the hospital then but he refused, and I think something has happened as a result of that injury,” she said.
“It’s an absolute miracle he’s alive – I can’t believe it.”
Craig Klineberg was sitting in his car nearby when he heard a noise “like a train crash” before another crashing noise “like thunder”.
