A shocking picture shows the moment drivers were stopped in their tracks when a road collapsed in Yorkshire with the tarmac cracked and ruptured.
It’s suspected a burst water pipe caused the damage with one “worried” driver saying a big puddle formed on the side of the road, causing chaos for motorists and pedestrians. The damage occurred in Hayburn Road, towards the junction with Agarth Road, in Healey, Batley, this morning (Friday, December 8).
Concerned resident Jane Smith snapped a picture of the road at about 11am. Jane said she was told the large crack in the road was caused by a burst water pipe.

Jane said: “It was a burst water pipe that is now being repaired. As I live nearby, I was worried about the increased traffic going to be on my road until its repaired. No I wasn’t scared.
“Unfortunately its seems second nature around here. I took picture at 11am and I don’t know what time it happened. I just reversed and went on my road instead. [There was] just a big puddle at side of road it could have got worse after I left.”
Kirklees Council has been asked for a comment.
