When Beth Phoenix, Edge’s wife, announced that she was stepping out of the ring in 2012, it was seen as the end of an era for the WWE Divas. Shortly after retiring, she gave birth to the first of their two gorgeous baby girls.

One cannot simply walk away from being WWE Diva, especially not if, like Beth Phoenix, you are a three-time women’s champion. The wrestler has been perfecting the sport since high school and has found other ways to remain involved in the WWE.

They are the first married couple to be inductees of the WWE Hall of Fame. However, their most tremendous pride and accomplishment remain in starting a family.

Beth Phoenix Left Wrestling to Be with Family

Phoenix and Adam “Edge” Copeland became a power couple in the true sense of the word when they got married on October 30, 2016. They met through the world of WWE, but their relationship only became romantic in 2011 after he retired from wrestling due to injury.

After the wedding, the WWE Diva updated her name on social media to reflect her new civilian name, Beth Copeland. The Buffalo native was born Elizabeth Kocianski and goes by the wrestling moniker Glamazon.

She decided to retire from wrestling in October 2012, as living out of a suitcase was no longer working for her. The wrestler wanted more time with her parents and brother instead of the short visits between work commitments. She told a newspaper, “It was time to go home.”

Kids Are Not What Sends Edge over the Edge

Before their marriage, Phoenix and Edge had already become a family with the birth of their two kids. While in labor with their first child in 2013, the Diva and her hubby decided on her name, Lyric Copeland. He had carried around the name idea in his head for a year.

While eight months pregnant with their second daughter and working on a master’s degree in forensic psychology, Phoenix took time out of ‘Baby Land’ to attend the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

She used the occasion to enjoy the atmosphere, see old WWE friends and take in the new generation of Divas. The wrestler revealed that Lyric was very excited about becoming a big sister.

Despite having a toddler running around the house, Edge admitted that live-tweeting his podcast on the WWE Network was the most challenging part of his week. Dealing with tremendous response and controversy puts him “over the edge.”

He credited Beth’s ability to chase after their kid, four dogs, and run the household while furthering her studies for having the freedom to record a podcast with his best friend. He elaborated:

“It’s a partnership — it has to be in order to juggle everything. Fortunately, I’ve got a pillar, so I can go and do the show knowing that everything at home is A-OK. It’s been an interesting ride over the past few months.”

In Edge’s announcement of Ruby Ever Copeland’s birth on May 31, 2016, the podcaster warned the world that he had an inkling that she would “move mountains.”

In April 2020, Ronnie Alexander tweeted his pleasure of Mattel bringing out a new Beth Phoenix action figure, “An ELITE at that!” The three-time champ replied the same day:

“I can’t believe I’ll get to share my excitement over this with my girls.”

Edge Reads to His Daughters Every Night

Lyric and Ruby have not gone to sleep without hearing their father’s smooth Canadian accent read to them. Not even the grueling overseas locations shooting for “Vikings” can cause a break in his girls’ nighttime routine. He told ESPN:

“If I’m in Ireland, and with the time difference, I will film myself reading a book for that night and send it to Dropbox so Beth can still play it for them.”

The man once known as “The Rated-R Superstar” showed the world this side of himself on Amazon’s “Bookaboo” by reading “Monsters Love Underpants” by Claire Freedman. Stars like Paula Abdul, Selma Blair, and Antonio Brown took turns reading a story on the show.

Edge was not always a family man; he divorced his first wife, Alannah Morley, in 2004. Her brother is professional wrestler Sean Allen Morley.

Phoenix values the respect of her peers, believing one should keep one’s personal feelings about them out of the ring.

He wed Lisa Ortiz seven months later, only for the marriage to implode within a year after a public cheating scandal. His affair with Amy “Lita” Christine Dumas, who was dating Matt Hardy, became fodder for the storyline in the ring.

Beth Is Retired but Remains Active in the Wrestling World

Phoenix’s love for the sport she grew up watching on TV is so deep that she pushed through glass ceilings to become the first female varsity wrestler at her high school in Buffalo, New York. In high school, she joined USA Wrestling.

After graduating college with a degree in criminal justice, she took her talents to the ring. She returned from breaking her lower jawbone on June 5, 2006, with a new name, Glamazon, to rule the Diva division, which landed her in the Hall of Fame.

Phoenix values the respect of her peers, believing one should keep one’s personal feelings about them out of the ring and create a haven where wrestlers can protect each other. Just because there’s a difference in opinion does not mean one can’t do business with them.

Despite retiring as a wrestler, she did not stray far from the WWE’s orbit. She stepped in as a commentator for WWE’s NXT and even hopped back into the ring occasionally.
