Edie McClurg’s ‘Friend’ Tried to Get the Star, Who Has Dementia, to Move Away Marry Him, Claims Her Family

Unfortunately, the uniquely talented red-haired actress Edie McClurg is spending her old age away from the camera because of dementia. Following her mental condition, her family is trying to guarantee her safety.

Edie McClurg’s acting career kicked off in the 1970s. However, her appearance as a supporting actress in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” shot her into the limelight. After her time in the 1986 film, McClurg established a solid career in Hollywood, including voice-over acting and comedy.

Sadly, as she aged, the actress’s health witnessed a decline. At 67, it was confirmed that she was battling dementia. Even though McClurg may never hold a script again or have an everyday life due to her mental health, her family wishes the best for her.

In 2019, family and loved ones affirmed that they are looking out for the Hollywood celebrity who lives in Los Angeles. They filed a document alleging that McClurg’s longtime friend, aged 72 at the time, was trying to take advantage of her situation.

According to her niece, cousin, and friend, this male companion, who lived with the actress for many years, had divulged plans to marry the TV star.

The plaintiff revealed that the results obtained from McClurg’s doctors proved that she could not function correctly without assistance. It also stated that the comedian is “especially vulnerable to undue influence given her poor judgment and evident dementia.”

They opined that McClurg would not fully comprehend the longtime companion’s desire to marry their relative since she is in a vulnerable state.

The actress’s male friend was also accused of being verbally abusive. They added that he had employed several means to make her change her estate planning.

The trio petitioned the court to appoint one of them to oversee her affairs. The party selected Angelique Cabral, McClurg’s cousin, as her conservator.

Further details in the documents showed that McClurg’s friend had been a resident in her home since 2017. Michael L. Ramos never paid rent or any expenses and had no job.

Reportedly, he attempted to move her out of California, away from family and friends, to marry her in private. Another accusation stirred by the actress’s caregiver proved that Ramos might have a hidden agenda.

The caregiver claimed that he assaulted her sexually, adding that Ramos “has or may be assaulting the Conservatee and that she may not even know that it is happening to her.”

One of the most shocking revelations made by this caretaker was that the duo had never been in a romantic relationship; she was also worried that Ramos might sexually harass the elderly. However, the accused maintained that he befriended the movie star in 2012 or 2013.

Although Ramos and McClurg’s family have gone back and forth with accusations, it is not the first time that her relative confirmed that something of such nature had happened to McClurg.

In 2019, the neurological report submitted in court emphasized that McClurg “suffers from a progressive, unreversible neurodegenerative disorder.” She was also taken advantage of by a married man who worked as a contractor in her home.

Sources claimed that the married man lived in McClurg’s house and told people he was her boyfriend. However, when his wife found out, she began stalking and ringing McClurg incessantly. Fortunately, Cabral intervened, and he put a stop to the menace.

Despite being aware of her capacity to understand the nature of their relationship, Ramos’s eagerness to marry McClurg was halted by a judge in 2019, following her family’s request.

As a result, the comedian has been placed under conservatorship, and her alleged companion had been ordered not to “enter into a valid marriage” with her.

In a recent development, the attorney for the conservatorship is requesting an order to withdraw Ramos from the legal arrangement completely.

On July 14, Cabral, McClurg’s cousin and guardian, filed an emergency petition to have Ramos ejected from the actress’s home.

However, the defendant was not having any of it. Instead, he fought back with an objection to the emergency notion and denied claims of any misconduct levied on him.

The actress was born and bred in Kansas City, Missouri. Not much is known about her childhood. However, apart from her niece and cousin, she has an older brother named Bob.

She studied at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and went further to bag a master’s degree from Syracuse University. Yet, despite her educational background, the Kansas native yearned to act.

McClurg’s journey to stardom began in 1976 when she played her first professional role in Brian De Palma’s “Carrie.” It was a horror movie based on a novel authored by Stephen King.

During a shower incident, the actress acted as Helen Shyres, a high school bully who taunted Carrie White, a fellow schoolmate. Eventually, she died in Carrie’s telekinesis at the school’s prom.

A decade later, TV lovers were treated to her brilliance in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” She starred as Grace, an assistant to Principal Edward B. Rooney of Chicago High School.

This teen comedy featured other commendable actors like Matthew Broderick and Jeffrey Jones. In the film, McClurg, starring as Grace, advised the principal on the best action to take concerning Bueller, who was considered a “righteous dude” by the cliques in the school.

McClurg’s acting career spanned decades; she featured in over two hundred TV productions. Her noteworthy performances were in the 1980s “The David Letterman Show” and a 1988 comedy horror titled “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark—McClurg played Chastity Pariah.

The actress also appeared in “Back to School,” “A River Runs Through It,” and “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.” Her voice-over credits in films and animations include “Frozen,” “The Rugrats Movie,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Cars,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Wreck-It-Ralph.”
