Elijah Blue Allman – Get To Know Cher’s Son Who Had Troubled Childhood Didn’t Invite Mom to Wedding

Pop icon Cher married 70s rocker Gregg Allman and welcomed her second child with him: a son, successful musician Elijah Blue Allman.

The pop icon and Academy Award-winning actress’s youngest child Elijah is not as well-known as his elder brother Chaz. Elijah, now 46, was estranged from his famous mother.

Like so many children of celebrities, Elijah’s journey through life and making his way in the world hasn’t been easy. His relationships with Cher and his father, Gregg Allman, were also far from ideal.

WHO IS ELIJAH BLUE ALLMAN, CHER’S SON?

Elijah Blue Allman was born on July 10, 1976, in Beverly Hills, California. His parents are well-known musicians Cher and Gregg Allman.

He attended a boarding school called Hyde School in Bath, Maine, where he graduated in 1994. Elijah’s a musician, just like his parents. He led his band, Deadsy, in the song “Gramercy Park.”

The 46-year-old revealed in 2014 that he felt “shunned” as a child. There were times while growing up that “he felt shunned by his parents.” Elijah went on to say, “When you go to boarding school at seven years old, it’s kind of hard to feel like you’re not being shunned.” Even though he said he was making peace with it, he said it still wasn’t right.

Elijah has had some struggles with his health and battled Lyme disease. He said his battle with the disease was near fatal; however, he was cured of it after getting treatment from doctors in Germany.

The musician’s battle with the disease did bring something beautiful in his life — he met the love of his life. Elijah met his wife Angie in Germany while undergoing treatment. At the time, Elijah said the experience made him look back at the ordeal that led him to meet Angie, which shows “how crazy life is.”

Elijah married his wife, Marieangela “Angie” King, on December 1, 2013, after they eloped in what he said was “a real Romeo and Juliet fashion.”

The love birds tied the knot at their new house in Beverly Hills in front of the fireplace. Only a few friends attended their wedding, which the couple wanted to be “sacred and private.”

During this time, things were not so rosy between Elijah and his mother. Cher reportedly didn’t congratulate or acknowledge Elijah on his engagement. It is one of the reasons the musician decided to elope.

Angie, who is an opera singer and musician, and Elijah didn’t invite Cher to their wedding, with Elijah saying, “he wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval and congratulations.” He also noted that their eloping is the same as how he’s done everything in his life.

Sadly, Elijah and Angie’s marriage didn’t last. The 46-year-old filed for divorce from his wife in 2021 after six years of marriage; however, they had separated since 2020.

He filed the legal documents in L.A. County Court and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce. It’s unclear if Elijah and Angie had a prenup before getting married.

POP & ROCK ROMANCE

After her 12-year relationship with Sonny Bono fell apart in 1974, Cher remarried four days after their divorce was final in 1975. Her choice fell on rocker Gregg Allman, but the marriage was in trouble from the start.

Despite her avant-garde fashion choices and exuberant personality, Cher was not part of the sex, drugs, and Rock’n’Roll movement, while Allman embodied the spirit of the rebellious 70s.

Cher has revealed that she had initially reacted badly when her then-daughter Chastity had come out to her as a lesbian.

BORN TO THE RHYTHM

Nine days after the wedding, Cher filed for a divorce over Allman’s addiction to drugs and alcohol. Allman and Cher eventually reconciled and, in July 1975, 13 months after their wedding, welcomed son Elijah Blue.

At that time, Cher was already a mother, sharing her six-year-old daughter Chastity Bono with her ex-husband Sonny. From the beginning, the marriage was in trouble, and despite Cher’s efforts, the couple separated when Elijah was just two years old.

After the divorce, Allman spiraled deeper into drug and alcohol dependence, living an erratic life, touring, and going through an endless roll of women. Elijah recalled Cher carefully controlling his access to their son:

“I think my mom was smart to sort of keep him at bay, when I had just enough to make it so that I knew that he was there.”

HIS FATHER’S SON

Elijah shared one thing with his father: a passion for music and an inborn talent for playing the guitar. Elijah received his first guitar at the hands of the iconic Gene Simmons and, by age 13, was touring with his mother.

At 19, Elijah founded the rock group Deadsy and started living the life of a rock star, dating Hollywood celebrities like Nicole Richie, Kate Hudson, and Paris Hilton. Unfortunately, he also delved into the drugs that had destroyed his father.

ELIJAH’S RELATIONSHIP WITH CHAZ BONO

Elijah mentioned in 2014 that he and his brother Chaz were close when they were kids. It was only when they started going to different schools and not living in the same place that they grew apart.

He also said the other thing that created the distance between them was that Chaz went off to a performing arts school while he went to prep school, so they took different paths.

ELIJAH BLUE ALLMAN’S ESTRANGED RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS MOTHER

Throughout his formative years, Elijah’s relationship with Cher was strained by the demands of her dual career as a singer and actress — and the fact that she placed him in a boarding school.

Cher didn’t react well to Elijah’s addiction to heroin, his rapprochement with his ailing father, who would pass away in 2017 from liver cancer, and his marriage to British hip-hop artist Marieangela King in 2013.

Due to Elijah’s estranged relationship with his mother, he eloped after she didn’t congratulate him on his engagement. According to Daily Mail, he described himself as the family’s black sheep.

He said this was because they had different mentalities and value systems, which led to many clashes. Elijah also said they had experienced a lot of ups and downs.

The rift between the musician and his mother got so bad that he and his wife weren’t invited to the family Christmas celebration at his mom’s house. Elijah went on to tweet about it.

Elijah explained that the reason they are estranged is his disdain for the superficiality of Hollywood life. He expressed that superstars have to be superficial to be mega celebrities. The musician also revealed that his mom didn’t believe he was ill. He explained:

“It was very hard for my mother to accept my illness. The going notion for a lot of years was that it was imaginary because that’s just easier.”

Elijah said even though his mother was supportive; however, he didn’t get the unconditional parental love he needed in those “dark hours.”

ELIJAH AND CHER HAVE COME A LONG WAY

Since then, things have improved between Cher and her rebellious son. Elijah is happily married, sober, and reconciled with his famous mother and sibling. Cher revealed in 2017 concerning her relationship with her children:

“I did the best I could do, and yet it was definitely lacking.”

Cher had revealed that she had initially reacted badly when her then-daughter Chastity came out to her as a lesbian and transgender. Since then, Cher has become son Chaz Bono’s biggest fan and an advocate of the LGBT community.

Even though Elijah and Cher were estranged, the 46-year-old still admires his mom. He revealed once that “she’s very talented” and gorgeous. Cher further revealed that being a mother changed her whole life. She said she enjoys being a mother and that her kids are “the best thing in the world.”

Her relationship with her kids has changed over the years. She and Elijah have gotten closer since his marriage. The famous musician expressed how grateful she is to have her kids in her life again and that their relationship is great.
