Eric André’s parents are from very diverse backgrounds. His mother is an award-winning activist, and his father is a former medical professional. Eric shares his father’s reaction to seeing him naked in a skit.

The stand-up comedian was born Eric Samuel André on April 4, 1983. He is primarily known for curating and hosting his Adult Swim self-titled comedy show, “The Eric Andre Show.”

Eric was born and bred in Boca Raton, Florida, by his New York-born mother, Natalie André, and Afro-Haitian father, Doctor Pierre André. In 2003, Eric began his carer as a comic.

Eric André‘s Mother Is of American Ashkenazi-Jewish Descent

Natalie Is a Florida stalwart and preserver of women’s rights. The comedian’s mother made Palm Beach County, Florida, her home in 1987. It did not take long to embark on her activism journey, as she joined National Organization for Women (NOW) shortly after.

The activist hit her stride while Eric and his siblings attended a public school in Florida. At that time, she attained a new role as the Membership Chair of NOW in Florida. This was preceded by substantial sex-education campaigning alongside Jean Poleshuck and Vivian Burch.

She is an activist for change who boasts noble achievements from her younger years. In 1998, she signed the Declaration of Sentiments of the National Organization for Women in Seneca Falls, New York City. She attained this mountainous achievement 150 years after the first declaration with the help of Sheila and Bob Jaffe.

Natalie and her colleagues from South Palm Beach County NOW participated in the 2004 “March for Women’s Lives.” In 2003, she played a significant role in forming and establishing Families Against Court Travesties (FACTS), an organization focused on assisting families facing court-inflicted calamities and reviewing judges.

Natalie is an Ashkenazi-Jewish woman who was accoladed with a Susan B. Anthony Feminist of the Year award in 2016. Her comedian son shared a congratulatory post to his Instagram and attached the hashtag “now” to commemorate her excellent work at National Organization for Women.

Andre’s Father Came to America Only Having $20 in His Pocket

Eric’s father, Doctor Pierre André, lived as a psychiatrist in Delray Beach, Florida. He has a compelling history of providing his services to Delray Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center after graduating from CETEC University in Santo Domingo.

Pierre treated patients who suffered from different forms of mental illness, including Depression; anxiety; substance abuse; and schizophrenia. Before reaching the top of his class at CETEC, Pierre immigrated from his homeland, Haiti, in 1969 with just $20 to his name.

He learned how to speak English in the USA and met his wife, Natalie, with whom he shared two children. After forty years of service in the medical field, Pierre’s life ended after a two-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer. He was 75 years old.

Pierre lived a wholesome life and stood by his children until the end. He died as a father and grandfather of two on December 9, 2022, six days before his birthday. Eric is a comedian who his father entertained. One of the comedian’s Instagram captions read:

“He was trying to make me laugh and smile all the way to the end. I love you dad. I’ll see you in the next existence. Rest In Peace.”

Pierre had a Twitter account but never really shared much on it, aside from two tweets in 2011. His more social media-inclined son shared a collection of his father’s photos; click here to see them. The diverse life experience dealt to Eric entitled him to the opinion that comedy is born from tragedy.

When the Comedian Appeared Naked in the NYT Newspaper, His Father Thought It Was a Costume

Eric is famed for his strangely hilarious signature gag. Part of his comedic dramatis personae is the comedian exposing his naked body in front of a large audience. The comedian explained that his father once encountered a photo of him where he was cooking in the nude—a photo from one of Eric’s skits.

The comedian shared that his father was convinced he was wearing a costume and advised him to change the outfit in the already-published photograph. Similar to Eric, Trevor Noah is another comedian with a diverse background, with his roots in South Africa.
