Perez Hilton gained more celebrity through his eponymic celebrity gossip blog than some of the starlets he trashed in the 2000s. The blogger had achieved his fatherhood goal by the time he turned 35 with a few weeks to spare.

Infamous for giving mean-spirited nicknames to starlets, Perez Hilton shocked his readers even more with a blog post announcing the birth of his son via surrogacy.

The once aspiring actor carved his niche in Hollywood and now presides over a media empire of websites concentrating on dogs, children, fitness, and fashion.

Little-Known Facts About Perez

Mario Armando Lavandeira II was born to Cuban parents in Florida and spent his early years in Little Havana and Westchester, Florida. The hell-raiser enrolled at all-boys Catholic Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami.

Mario took the stage name Perez Hilton in 2004. He was inspired by hotel heiress and reality star of “The Simple Life,” Paris Hilton. The gossip monger shares no familial bonds with Paris but claims they’re friends. He has appeared on “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.”

He was the managing editor of Instinct before launching his celebrity blog. The original name, PageSixSixSix.com, was changed to his stage name as the site gained popularity.

Perez is an “amazing boyfriend”

Perez has lived as an openly gay man for most of his life. He has confided in Tanya Hennessy that his reputation makes it hard for him to find a partner, as the “overwhelming majority of gay men” do not like him.

On “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2015, he fought with most of his housemates.

In a LA Times profile, he explained why he did not wait for a partner to become a father, “I knew it was going to happen this way because boyfriends and husbands may come and go, but kids are forever.”

His son Mario Armando Lavandeira was born four weeks early in March 2013 and was healthy for a premie at 5 pounds, 9 ounces. Perez opened up about his early difficulties with fatherhood:

“The other day, I locked myself in the bathroom and started crying because, in addition to my brain feeling loopy, I really have felt super hormonal and emotional. Wow, I really am a dad now and it’s awesome.”

The man, who Khloe Kardashian once considered her personal bully, is now the father of two girls. Mia Alma was born in May 2015, and Mayte Amor in the afternoon of October 4, 2017. Mia is named after her grandparents, Mario and Teresita.

The Controversy of Perez’s Personality

The controversial figure began to soften his image when he made a video to help prevent queer teenage suicide. He looked to his role model Oprah for a more positive approach but says Rosie O’Donnell’s persona was a better match:

“She’s a polarizing person, but when people think of her, they don’t think she’s a bad person or she’s mean. I don’t need to be liked, but I need to not be considered the downfall of civilization.”

When pop star and new mom Britney Spears suffered from mental health issues in 2007, he called her an “unfit mother.” A year later, he piled on by selling T-shirts when actor Health Ledger died with the slogan, “Why couldn’t it be Britney?”

On “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2015, he fought with most of his housemates but saved most of his venom for Calum Best and Katie Hopkins. The Sun reports he told Hopkins that he would kill himself if he were one of her kids.
