  • Geena Davis experienced dark times when all three of her marriages failed.

  • The star’s unlikely fourth marriage allowed her to become a mother of three.

  • According to Geena, it was an unfair request from her 15-years younger husband and the father of her three children to ask for spousal support after 20 years of marriage.

  • The actress has been accepting herself after all her trials.

Geena Davis experienced three failed marriages before meeting her three children’s father. Two men she was once married to included actor Jeff Goldblum and director Renny Harlin.

The “Thelma & Louise” star’s first husband was Richard Emmolo, whom she married on March 25, 1981, until they divorced. Her subsequent short-lived marriage was with Goldblum, beginning on November 1, 1987.

Geena and Goldblum concluded their union in 1991. Harlin was the actress’s last husband, having tied the knot with him on September 18, 1993, and divorcing on June 21, 1998.

According to Good Housekeeping (GH), the actress felt confused and isolated after the failure of her unions. During an October 19, 2022, “Loose Women” interview, the star explained how she didn’t have enough self-esteem to have children with her previous husbands.

However, the Oscar Award winner eventually found her fate tied to a man who wasn’t an obvious partner choice for her because he was 15 years younger. Geena also initially didn’t take the younger man’s intentions seriously at the beginning.

Later in life, Geena’s self-esteem got a boost because of her active lifestyle. At age 42, the actress became romantically drawn to a 27-year-old Dr. Reza Jarrahy after meeting him at a party.

The star explained how she’d initially been attracted to men she thought she could “fix” and turn into perfect partners. Geena explained further what type of men she was used to dating, saying:

“I was always in the type of relationship where everything was about the other person.”

The actress revealed how she used to find her self-worth by sacrificing things for the sake of the men she was dating. She said sacrificing herself had to do with her feelings about herself because the men she dated felt good about themselves without her efforts.

Geena realized they never needed her to fix them because there was nothing wrong with them; instead, she had to work on herself. When Reza came into her life, her past patterns were ready to be broken.

She’d managed to change herself, and that led her to alter what appeared attractive to her. The actress described Reza as different from the men she used to date and that if she met the type of men she used to go for in the past, she’d break out in laughter.

During the 2006 GH interview, Geena confessed that the age difference between her and the doctor took some time to get used to. She initially thought it was a “little far-fetched” for them to have a relationship.

His cuteness initially attracted her to Reza before she noticed how young he was. The actress believed they would have fun together and hadn’t thought long-term.

However, the more they spent time together, the more she realized that their age difference didn’t make any difference in any meaningful way. She never felt like they were from different generations, and later they barely noticed it.

Although the star had come from three failed marriages, she was so happy and in love with Reza that she was willing to go through a fourth one. Geena revealed that she asked Reza if he was sure he wanted to become her fourth husband.

However, the actress wasn’t nervous about the decision because she felt she’d “turned a corner.” She had made permanent and fundamental changes, with her being excited to know she was marrying someone she could be herself around without him judging her or leaving the room.

A year after the couple’s marriage, Geena’s life experienced another change when she became pregnant. The actress became a first-time mother in her 40s, but instead of getting unnerved, she said:

“I felt 100 percent that I would be such a better parent than I would have been even five years earlier and certainly ten or 20 years earlier.”

The star believed that if she’d had children earlier, she would’ve been a parent who over-involved themselves and tried living through their offspring. She acknowledged that some younger people probably figured out how to be better parents before she did, but that wasn’t the case for her.

Geena said she became a parent at the right time with the right person. Ultimately, the celebrity was grateful for having children in her 40s because she had believed she would be “more evolved” the longer she waited.

The “A League of Their Own” star was 46 when she had her daughter and 48 when her twin boys were born. Speaking to The Guardian in 2020, the actress shared how lucky she felt having children late in life because she’d changed a lot, adding:

“I always knew I wanted kids, but what I was doing waiting that long, I don’t know. I never tried before, in other words. But it’s been great. And twins are fun!”

However, having twins two years after her first child left her daunted. Reza’s wife had three children below the age of three and worried about being able to love her sons as much as her daughter.

Geena [Davis] believed she’d settled into her looks and was visibly more at ease.

She did, but the experience was overwhelming. Sadly, her marriage to the doctor eventually ended, and in 2022, Geena was single again and embraced her older age.

The star alleged their marriage license wasn’t returned to the court clerk, and under New York law, she and the doctor weren’t legally married. The actress believed that she and Reza had no property to share without marriage.

She also felt he wasn’t entitled to spousal support for that exact reason Reza had petitioned for it. The doctor believed their marriage was legit despite the license issue because they’d “held themselves” as wife and husband all those years.

By December 3, 2018, the former couple’s divorce was finalized. Geena and Jeza agreed to change their then 17-year-old twin sons’ last names from Davis-Jarrahy to Jarrahy, but the actress’ second middle name was left for both boys.

In 2006, the star revealed how she was at peace with aging and felt her life had improved. Jeza’s ex-wife shared how she didn’t fear aging and liked how she looked more than years back.

Geena believed she’d settled into her looks and was visibly more at ease. However, the actress noted how she was content with them but wasn’t sure how she’d feel at 70; in 2022, the star was still single.
