Georgia UPS Driver Gets Promotion after Recording Sweet Message for an Exhausted New Mom

Random acts of kindness can go a long way in making someone’s day and bringing strangers together. A similar scenario played out when a delivery driver left a sweet message for a new mother, not knowing that it would lead to heartwarming surprises.

Dallen Harrell worked as a delivery driver for UPS. One day in December 2021, he was on his usual delivery route when he noticed a familiar house. It didn’t take him long to recall that he had stopped by the same address earlier that November.

After seeing a stork ornament on the lawn the last time he visited, the 24-year-old driver knew he had the correct address. But he did something astonishing instead of leaving the house or ringing the bell.

A Touching Gesture

Harrell walked up to the home’s doorbell camera, and it appeared as if he had something to say. He had a special message for the house owner:

“If this is the ‘It’s a Boy’ house, I hope all is going well with your newborn. I had a child around the same time you guys did, and I just hope everything is going good. God bless and happy holidays (sic).”

Truly Surprised

The owner, Jessica Hope, was a 36-year-old woman from Roswell, Georgia. When she found the doorbell message left by the delivery guy, she said she was blown away and rendered speechless.

Eventually, UPS reached out to the Georgia mom and revealed the delivery guy’s identity.

Meanwhile, Harrell, who loved singing and was a true altruist, said he didn’t expect much in return for his message. He expressed, “I’d give someone the shirt off my back and the last change in my cup holder.”

Perfect Timing

But Hope had no plans of ignoring the congratulatory note and knew precisely what she had to do with the 26-second footage. She told Bored Panda:

“He not only remembered it was our house, but he took the time to send me a message that he didn’t know if I would ever see.”

Hope said the message meant the world to her, especially because she had welcomed a baby three weeks earlier via C-section and felt isolated and exhausted. She called the delivery driver an “angel” and said the message was very welcoming.

Gaining Traction

Not knowing the delivery driver’s name then, Hope decided to share the video on Instagram, where it became a viral sensation. She posted the clip on December 4, 2021. As of October 27, 2022, the viral video has racked up over 1,85,000 views. A part of the caption read:

“It was good to be reminded that there are still great people working hard every day for us! I really wish I knew his name but I hope he comes back and if he does there will be diapers waiting for him (sic)!”

Finding the Stranger

Hope admitted she had no idea her Instagram post would garner so much attention. She said many netizens reached out to her and offered to help find the kind delivery man.

Eventually, UPS contacted the Georgia mom and revealed the delivery guy’s identity. It was only a matter of time before Hope and Harrell had a phone conversation.

After thanking him for his heartwarming message, the Roswell resident discovered that he had been completing deliveries part-time over the Christmas holidays, which didn’t let him have a proper baby shower for his newborn boy.

A Heartwarming Surprise

Hope said she asked Harrell for his registry online to remedy the situation. After he agreed, several people contacted Hope, sharing their confirmations of purchases that included toys and baby supplies.

With over 15 packages being delivered to Harrell daily, Hope said the wishlist was completed sooner than she had expected. But that wasn’t all. Things turned out for the delivery driver when UPS offered him a full-time position. Their official announcement said:

“This is one of many great examples of how our people are delivering what matters every day. Dallen’s action was heartwarming, so we helped to connect the customer with Dallen and we also offered him a permanent driver job.”

Beyond Expectations

UPS further said they were thrilled that Harrell had accepted their offer. From a random message to becoming internet famous and getting a job offer —the young man’s life changed for the better. He expressed:

“When I left the comment at the doorbell, I didn’t even expect to hear from them, and so many blessings have followed behind.”
