According to Schmidt’s Instagram profile, she’s also an avid photographer and reportedly introduced her husband to photographer and artist Ian Ruhter. It led to her husband and Ruhter collaborating, and their collaboration is documented in the short film, “The Carnival of Dreams.”

The couple eventually married in August 2017, and they chose to make their relationship official in a very private wedding ceremony, which included several dozen friends. The ceremony took place in LA at the home of Oldman’s manager Doug Urbanski.

Oldman’s proposal was quite unusual. The award-winning actor proposed to Schmidt while dressed as Winston Churchill, which is his character in “Darkest Hour.”

Speaking about the proposal on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Oldman said, “There was a break in the filming, and we had talked about it. And I just felt the urge…and I took her into the map room, and as Winston Churchill I said will you marry me? And she said yes.”

Oldman has said he’s confident the fifth time’s a charm when talking about his marriage to Schmidt, who is his fifth wife. He opened up to New York Daily News by saying:

“You know, sometimes you have to go through the others. I’ve gone through my thing, and we’re like peas in a pod. I’m nearly 60 and at last I think I’ve come home.”

Schmidt and Oldman seem to be doing a great job raising their kids together as a family. The couple co-parents their four children from their previous marriages together, and the couple loves sharing posts of their blended family on social media.

After Oldman divorced Manville, he tied the knot with well-known Hollywood actress Uma Thurman. The couple was married from 1990 to 1992. Despite Oldman revealing that being married to Thurman was like “living with an angel,” Vanity Fair described it as “turbulent.”

The actor’s third wife was Donya Fiorentino, who he married in 1997 after meeting in 1996. Their marriage was filled with allegations from Fiorentino, who reportedly accused Oldman of abusing her and living a reckless lifestyle. In return, Oldman claimed Fiorentino only married him because he was famous.

The pair ended their “nightmare” marriage marred by allegations of addiction with an ugly divorce in 2001. They had two sons together, Charlie and Gulliver. The alleged abuse was not the only thing Fiorentino accused Oldman of.

Fiorentino further claimed that Gary Oldman wrecked her life after the actor won custody of their children after a bitter 15-year dispute. The mother-of-two claimed in 2018 that her former husband excluded her from Charlie and Gulliver’s lives and their kids barely spoke to her.

In 2008, the “Dark Knight” actor married Alexandra Edenborough, a singer and songwriter. Oldman parted with millions when he divorced his wife in 2015, and they also divided their assets. According to the actor, their relationship failed due to their age gap.
