‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Chandra Wilson Isn’t Married and Has Had a Partner for over 30 Years

“Grey’s Anatomy” actress Chandra Wilson’s character Dr. Miranda Bailey has been married twice, but in her real life, she has yet to wed her loving partner of 30 years and the father of her children.

“Grey’s Anatomy” fans love Dr. Miranda Bailey and have faithfully followed her career and love life’s ups and downs for the last seventeen years. Chandra Wilson, the actress who plays Dr. Bailey, is famous for keeping her personal life under wraps.

The actress keeps her love life separate from her work, and even Chandra Wilson’s husband’s name is a secret, even though the two have been together for over 30 years and share three beautiful children.

Chandra Wilson made her acting debut at age 5 in a stage production of the musical “The King and I.” The Texas native, born in Houston on August 27, 1969, was encouraged by her mother, who enrolled her in dance lessons when she was only four.

She went on to study at Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and earned a BFA in Drama at the prestigious NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Before landing her breakthrough role in “Grey’s Anatomy” working with Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo in 2005, Wilson did theater and commercials and guested on TV.

Wilson became desperate to find a solution to her daughter’s problem, or at the very least, a diagnosis. She dug into Dr. Miranda Bailey’s steely determination and refused to give up until she found the answer.

Her role as Miranda Bailey has earned her several awards and nominations, and what many may not know is that she has directed over 20 episodes of the series, as well as on “The Fosters,” “Scandal,” and “Good Trouble.” Wilson’s prime role is that of mother of three children and life partner, and she brings every ounce of energy and passion into it.

Her Real-Life Partner Remains Private

Wilson has kept her partner of over 30 years under wraps, and his name is unknown, though he had appeared by her side at a few red-carpet events when she first started working on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Wilson rarely speaks about her man and once commented that they “made it work” when asked if her relationship suffered under the demanding work schedule for “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Wilson’s determination to protect her romance from the pressure of public scrutiny is understandable, considering how short-lived and fragile so many Hollywood relationships prove to be.

Chandra Has Three Children

Wilson and her mystery man share three children: daughters Sarina, born in 1992, and Joy, born in 1998, and a son, Michael, born in 2005. The two girls are grown up, but Michael is still a teen.

Sarina McFarlane shares her mom’s creative drive and love of storytelling. She studied screenwriting at Cal State Northridge and has revealed on social media that her ambition is to be a novelist.

Sarina’s younger sister, Joylin McFarlane, is a business research analyst with a Master of Business Analytics from the American University and a B.A. in Biology, Computational Biology from the University of La Verne.

Though Wilson referred to Joylin as “the mugger,” she has shown no interest in acting so far. She is in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Grant Fairman, and often shares sweet snaps of herself and her family. The most low-key of Wilson’s children is young Michael, and very little is known about the teen.

Chandra Wilson Dealt with Her Daughter’s Medical Issue by Tapping into Her “Grey’s Anatomy” Role

Wilson suffered through some anxious times with Sarina, who started becoming ill when she was a teenager. Young Sarina would become nauseous, vomit, and suffer from crippling pain at regular intervals, but doctors couldn’t find the root cause. She explained:

“It presented itself like a real bad case of food poisoning. It didn’t go away for four or five days so because of that we went to the ER. A month later, the exact same presentation happened, and this was month after month after month for 10 months.”

As time went on and Sarina’s symptoms recurred, Wilson became desperate to find a solution to her daughter’s problem, or at the very least, a diagnosis. She dug into Dr. Miranda Bailey’s steely determination and refused to give up until she found the answer.

She collated all the information about her daughter’s symptoms in a file, including everything she ate, until she had her diagnosis: cyclic vomiting syndrome, or CVS. According to Dr. Richards Boles, medical director at Courtagen Life Sciences, Sarina was fortunate to be diagnosed so soon.

Dr. Boles revealed that many CVS sufferers go for years without a diagnosis for the genetic disorder. Sarina’s problem inspired Wilson to direct a “Grey’s Anatomy” episode in which Dr. Miranda Bailey struggled to diagnose the condition in the hope it would help other CVS sufferers.

Sarina shared her struggles with CVS on Instagram and revealed how it affects her life, often leaving her bedridden with crippling pain and weakness. Sarina wrote:

“I have my mom to thank for drilling that nugget in my head. CVS may be painful and debilitating, but it would be nothing compared to giving up your dreams and dropping out of college.”

Sarina credits her mother with giving her the courage and the focus to keep fighting for her dreams, and one of these days, we may see her first novel on the shelves and her first screenplay in production.
