Every child is beautiful and extraordinary and deserves to be loved and cherished. In a world marred by materialism, it’s important to note that real beauty lies skin deep, and our hearts, soul, and personalities make us unique and stand out from the crowd.

Often, children’s first contact with education and life-altering lessons is at home, where elders and parents try their best to instill excellent values. Many youngsters rely on their strong support system whenever things go awry; something similar played out for this little girl.

A petrified mother decided to respond to haters who reportedly questioned if her little girl’s face had been “pushed onto a frying pan.” Some even went as far as to say that her “hideous-looking child” would never be able to date or find a lover because of her appearance.

At first, she only drew a heart on her face, but later, she mimicked her baby girl’s complete port-wine stain.

Marianna Bowering, a resident of Adelaide, South Australia, had never thought she would have to safeguard her angelic baby from bullies and trolls. Her daughter was born with a port-wine stain shaped like a heart spreading across her face.

While the mom was astounded when she first saw her infant girl, she never treated her differently. In fact, Marianna always saw her girl’s unique feature as a fitting addition to her beauty which deserved to be celebrated rather than criticized or hidden.

Responding to Bullies & Haters

Baby Angelica arrived in the world on May 6, 2018, with a pinkish-purple birthmark covering her face, including her forehead, eyes, nose, and chin. Regardless of how different her child looked, Marianna was determined to provide her with tender love and care.

Although Marianna’s family and friends were baffled by her daughter’s distinctive facial mark, they were kind, loving, and accepting toward the tot. Unfortunately, the little girl didn’t receive the same welcoming treatment from others and was subjected to a slew of rude remarks in public and online.

According to Marianna, her daughter was called “hideous” and a “defect,” One person reportedly stated that Angelica could never find a life partner. The Aussie mom recalled another online comment where someone asked if a skillet had scalded her daughter’s face as it looked “grilled.”

She related another hurtful comment from a soccer game where someone called Angelica a “defect” and walked away, leaving Marianna shocked and shattered. But that wasn’t all. Some reportedly thought that Marianna had her baby play with boiling water, which burned her face.

The Adelaide resident said people told her to stop drawing attention to her daughter’s face. When Angelica’s mother created her Instagram account to raise awareness and share her beauty with the world, the online criticism aggravated all the more.

The horrified mom voiced her concerns, slamming people for bullying a baby. But as the hateful comments continued to pour in, Marianna became convinced that she would never hide her daughter and her uniqueness.

In addition to the hate speech, Marianna claimed her daughter received highly thoughtless and insensitive remarks meant as “back-handed” compliments.

Some told the mother that her daughter’s facial spots would diminish with time, while others said Angelica could easily hide them with makeup if she didn’t like them. Upset by such comments, Marianna wondered why her baby girl’s only option was to cover her face instead of flaunting her natural beauty.

A professional beauty expert, Marianna was reportedly told not to worry because her daughter was still stunning. Some even confused Angelica’s birthmark with face paint and only understood the difference after Marianna explained it.

People continued to ask all sorts of questions from the mother, and many of them were downright hurtful and blatant. But despite the criticism and negative feedback, Marianna hoped her daughter would overcome all the challenges.

She shared that her lovely girl was much more than the birthmark on her face, adding, “It’s [Angelica’s] superhero mask. She wears her heart on her face.”

Also called “capillary malformations,” port-wine stains are permanent birthmarks that may indicate other health issues, like seizures, developmental delays, and glaucoma, if the spots are found to cover the eye area.

In 2020, Marianna and her husband, both 27 then, revealed that their daughter was completely healthy, and they ensured she visited the doctor regularly.

Supporting Her Daughter & Raising Awareness

Over time, Marianna’s adorable baby has grown into a beautiful little girl, and the mom has resorted to a creative method to support her and raise awareness of her birthmark.

In May 2020, the Aussie makeup artist showed solidarity with her then-two-year-old girl by emulating her birthmark on her own face. She was said to have used a vibrant eyeshadow palette to recreate the exact stain her daughter wore so confidently every day.

The affectionate mom credited the “Vascular Birthmark Awareness Day” for helping her come up with the splendid idea. At first, she only drew a heart on her face, but later, she mimicked her baby girl’s complete port-wine stain.
