Coming into the world on the last day of November in 1960, in Nazareth, Israel, Abbass is of Palestinian origin. Born into a Muslim Arab family, she grew up in the Arab-Muslim-dominated Israeli village of Deir Hanna in the North of the country. She moved to London, then Paris, in the 1980s and has resided there for most of her life.

She began her career at the Palestinian National Theater or El-Hakawati, which had just been established in Jerusalem’s American Colony.
