The couple recently celebrated their 27th anniversary, and Jackman shared the milestone on Instagram with a sweet, heartfelt message.

The actor wrote, “I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage, and loyalty are incredible gifts to me. I love you with all my heart.”

Jackman first met Furness on the Australian TV show “Corelli” set and immediately knew she was the one for him. However, three weeks into their relationship Furness tried to break up with him, but the actor managed to talk her out of it, which he was still very thankful for.

Jackman admitted that he was not the most decisive person and can count a few times he’s been sure about something, and choosing Furness as his life partner was one the rare instances.

Although Jackman’s marriage has stayed strong for over two decades, it has also received a lot of criticism. The actor’s union has been labeled a sham because he was considered gay.

One Twitter user described him as a “closet case who won’t come out” and expressed how much it made them angry, the continued to write, “despite having a long-term boyfriend and sham marriage to Beard. He irks me.”

Despite the hate directed at their relationship, the couple has managed to cancel out the noise and focus on growing a stronger connection.

When Jackman met Furness, they were both single. The actor had just gotten out of a relationship he had sustained throughout Drama school.

On the other hand, Furness had a career that had already kicked off, but she was living a single life that she did not want to complicate with something serious. In contrast, things looked bleaker for Jackman, who lived on $120 a week till he was 26.

Despite the challenging aspects of his life, things felt much better when Furness came along. “She was very beautiful. She was unbelievably fun — this energy, this spirit — irrepressible. And she had a confidence in herself. I had a massive crush on her instantly.” he remembered.

Jackman was attracted to how different his wife was from him; he described himself as an “Even Steven,” while she was more outgoing.

On their 25 anniversary, Jackman shared another sweet message about his wife. He said being married to Furness felt as natural as breathing.

He expressed that their marriage had only improved and strengthened throughout the years, and he appreciated the adventure and lessons from his time with his wife and the family they had created.

Although the couple has ignored the noise about Jakcman’s sexuality, they have been aware of the negative comments about their marriage and admitted that it sometimes bothers them.

The “Shame” actress was shocked at the remarks about her husband, but mostly she thought it was sad that people gossiped about someone they did not know.

During an interview on the “Not an Overnight Success” podcast, the Australian actress spoke more about the rumors about her husband. She said if Jackman were gay, he would live free out of the closet and date someone he liked. Furness found the whole narrative to be silly and boring.

Jackman also addressed the claims about his sexuality on “60 Minutes Australia” and said, “If I was gay, I would be,” and that he found a person’s sexuality to be the least exciting thing about them.

The bashing has not only been pointed at Jackman but at his wife too. One Twitter user remarked, “Hugh Jackman has an ugly old wife! :'( why hugh whyyyyy!!!!!”

However, another fan defended Furness saying, “Haters out there can say what they want, but Deborra-Lee seems to get better with age. They are a beautiful couple, 27 years together just proves that they’re meant to be.”

What Rules Deb Had Rules in Relationships When She Met Hugh?

One of the reasons Furness has loved her husband for over two decades was his humor, but she did not think he was funnier than her.

The actress believed she was the one that gave him the best material. Aside from laughing together, the foundation of their long-lasting marriage is love. Furness said, “When you love someone, you want the best for them.”

Jackman, on the other hand, believed their key was honesty. As two actors who know the intensity of the industry, the actor revealed that they came up with a few rules for their marriage.

They agreed to not be apart for more than two weeks and not go to bed mad at each other, even if it meant staying up all night to resolve the issue.

Another part of honesty the “Logan” star thought was crucial was being free and expressing anything to his partner, no matter how embarrassing it may seem.

The actor also opened up about the problems they had with fertility. He said he had always wanted to adopt, but he and Furness still tried to conceive naturally.

When it did not work, they tried IVF, which resulted in a few miscarriages. But eventually, their heartache was consoled when they welcomed their two children, Oscar and Ava.
