Amethyst Amelia Kelly is an Australian rapper famously known as Iggy Azalea and was born on June 7, 1990. She rose to global fame in 2014 and became a household name with the release of her single “Fancy,” which featured English singer and songwriter Charli XCX.

Being a household name with millions of fans, it came as a surprise when the rapper announced that she was the mother of Onyx Kelly, as she never revealed that she was pregnant.

Around the middle of 2020, Azalea announced the birth of her son, but she never confirmed an exact birth date and preferred to reveal her new motherhood status without pictures of her son.

Azalea also clarified that her son was not a secret and loved him beyond words. The “Fancy” rapper and model had Onyx with Playboi Carti, who is also a rapper.

WHO IS IGGY AZALEA’S SON ONYX KELLY?

On June 10, 2020, Azalea took to her Instagram stories to announce the birth of Onyx. She said:

“I have a son. I kept waiting for the right time to say something but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world.”

Before she made the announcement, there were rumors around December 2019 that the Australian rapper was pregnant, but neither she nor Carti confirmed them. Instead, she posted a picture of herself in a red bikini to shut down the rumors.

Despite never mentioning the exact birth date of her son, Onyx could have been born around April or May 2020, as she celebrated his second birthday in early May 2022.

For his 2nd birthday, Onyx had a dinosaur-themed party which included a pool with his name spelled over it, a balloon artist, dinosaur masks, a bounce house and slide, a dinosaur piñata, and more.

According to fans, Azalea named her son Onyx because it is a gemstone that correlates with her real name ‘Amethyst.’ At first, she shared many photos of her son, and she was delighted, but in 2021, she stopped. In a tweet, she said:

“I’ve decided I won’t be posting about Onyx or sharing images online anymore. Y’all not about to be out here playing with my baby on my watch, nope!”

The rapper decided it was time to stop showing off her son to the world because some fans and online users began trolling her and Onyx’s choice of outfits.

WHO IS ONYX KELLY’S FATHER?

Carti is a songwriter and rapper whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter and was born on September 13, 1996. He gained mainstream attention in 2017 and is known for his experimental musical style, gothic fashion choices, and secretive public presence.

In April 2017, he released his debut mixtape that included Billboard Hot 100 charting singles like “Magnolia” and “Woke Up Like This.” In 2018, Carti released his debut studio album “Die Lit,” and in 2020, he released his second album “Whole Lotta Red.”

ONYX KELLY’S PARENTS HAVE A ROCKY RELATIONSHIP

In October 2020, Azalea revealed that she and Carti had split, and in of the cryptic messages she shared on her Instagram story, she said:

“What I meant last night was that I’m raising my son alone & I’m not in a relationship.”

However, she later clarified that Carti was present in Onyx’s life, and he loved his son. The rapper said she never intended for people to think Carti was not a part of their son’s life.

Things took a different turn in December 2020 when Azalea took to a Twitter rant to reveal that Carti missed his son’s first Christmas and was not there when Onyx was born even though they were living together.

Azalea also revealed that Onyx took her last name Kelly because Carti had refused to sign his birth certificate even though they had planned to have the baby.
