Imani Guy Duckett drew her first breath on March 28, 1999, born to actress Jasmine Guy and her former husband, Terrence Duckett. Her mother filed for divorce from her dad in 2008, citing irreconcilable differences.

Imani Guy Duckett was nine when her parents officially separated. Although she has made a few public appearances with her mother, she has lived a relatively private life. The young artist mostly shares her experiences with her craft.

Imani graduated from Atlanta Girls School in May 2017. Her mother celebrated the milestone, sharing several pictures from the momentous day. One showed Imani posing with her classmates, all dressed in white and holding yellow rose bouquets.

“My baby graduated! I am so proud of you, lulu,” Jasmine wrote. Imani then enrolled at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. During her studies, her mom posted a throwback photo of herself and young Imani embracing, reminiscing:

“Me and my baby 16 years ago, and now she’s at NYU.”

She posted her latest work, a visual poem titled Paper Cuts, in January 2021. The piece, which she explained “was done as an indie or final performance of my college experience at NYU,” interrogated her experiences as a young Black woman.

“I don’t have any of the answers to the questions I raise in the piece, but from the responses I have gotten, the asking of the question might just be as important as its answer,” she reflected. In June 2022, she joined the marketing agency Team Epiphany as a Production Intern.
