In 2013, when Imogen Sheeran’s son, Ed Sheeran, accepted his Grammy award for Song of the Year, the singer expressed gratitude for her and his dad’s efforts to help him reach stardom. Imogen and her husband, John Sheeran, sat proudly in the audience, listening to their son deliver his acceptance speech.

As the camera panned to Ed’s parents, it depicted a smiling elder couple looking on as the artist spoke, except this couple wasn’t Imogen and John. The cameraman had gotten confused and didn’t know who Ed’s parents were.

Social media had a field day with the incident, poking fun at the cameraman’s mistake. One Twitter user joked about how “those random people” felt about being Ed’s parents, while another said they were “99% sure” the said couple was not Ed’s parents.

While the joke died down after some time, the “Shape Of You” singer’s fans wondered who his real parents were. Both Imogen and John were instrumental in helping their son achieve success. After nurturing his love for music, Imogen opened a school for other children who wanted to sing.

Imogen Has Tried Different Jobs throughout Her Life

Leading her life as a mother and wife, Imogen worked in an art gallery as a culture publicist and jewelry designer in Halifax, West Yorkshire. She also co-owned and ran an art consultancy firm, Sheeran Lock, with her husband.

However, after the 2008 financial crisis, the couple had to close their firm and decided to pursue their careers individually. When Imogen’s son, Ed, was still up-and-coming, she would sell Liquorice Allsorts jewelry at his concerts.

Following his success, it became a booming business as Ed’s fans supported Imogen’s candy jewelry store. Speaking about why she started the business, which also had its own website, Imogen said:

“I started making jewelry after the funding was cut for a youth arts program I was working for. I made some Liquorice Allsorts bracelets for Ed, to start with, and they went down very well.”

Unfortunately, she had to close the store in May 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic as it struggled to stay afloat. That year her son was named the wealthiest British musician, followed by the likes of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Dua Lipa.

Earlier that year, in March, Imogen established a music school for primary (elementary) school students called the Suffolk Kodaly Community Interest Company. The school aimed to provide thorough musical education through the experience of singing.

According to the former culture publicist, engaging in singing would benefit the children, helping to improve their social and mental development, behavior, confidence, attainment levels, and ability to deal with peer pressure.

Her Son’s Fans Mistakenly Thought He Dedicated a Song to Her

It was from his 2017 album “÷,” which he titled “Supermarket Flowers.” The song touched many hearts, and the lyrics “You are an angel in the shape of my mom” led fans to believe it was dedicated to Imogen.

However, Ed—married to Cherry Seaborn, with whom he shares daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran—clarified during an interview with Zach Lowe that “Supermarket Flowers” was a tribute to Imogen’s late mother, who was ill when he made the record.

Imogen Helped Her Son Fail His Driving Test

It was in March 2017 when Imogen called Ed to ask her son if he had passed his driver’s test. Ed was still taking the test when he answered the call, which led to an immediate failure as he had broken the law for driving and being on the phone. He passed on his second attempt.

Imogen’s Husband Tried to Encourage His Children’s Passion for Music

Last year in September, at a charity event for GeeWizz and Castle Community Rooms, John detailed how he and Imogen encouraged their children to draw and paint. He recalled how driven Ed was in his music and would even photograph him while he worked on his craft.
