George was at his home in Lake Como, Italy, when a friend asked him if they could bring another guest as they stopped by. The actor agreed, and this mutual friend brought Amal, who happened to be a human rights lawyer, to the party.

However, before Amal arrived at his house, George got a call from his agent, who told him he had met the woman who was coming to the actor’s house and added that he was sure George would marry her.

George said he had an immediate connection with Amal when she arrived. George, Amal, his parents who were visiting him, and the other people at the house stayed up all night and talked. Before the night ended, George and Amal exchanged emails so that the actor could send him pictures of the night.

The couple started emailing frequently, and soon, they were in a romantic relationship. Amal said George used to send him letters at the beginning of their relationship. She hilariously recalled that one letter the actor had signed off as his dog.

When they started dating, Amal and George were spotted touring the world together, and in September 2014, just like George’s agent had prophesied, the actor and Amal wed in Italy. The gorgeous ceremony took place at the Amal Canal Grande resort in Venice.

George, who had no plans to marry again after divorcing Talia Balsam, is now close to hitting a decade in marriage with Amal. During their eight-wedding anniversary, George and Amal spoke to Gayle King on CBS Morning about their love.

Gayle said George used to be a “confirmed bachelor,” but he surprised many fans when he said he was getting married to Amal. The actor admitted that the minute Amal “walked in the door” when they first met, he was immediately taken by her.

Amal said when she met George, she was glad that someone like him existed in this world. Now, the lovebirds have settled in Italy, which is a special place for them as they met and got married there.

George was living in Lake Como, Italy, even before he met Amal. The actor purchased his grand estate in Villa Olendra in 2002. It isn’t clear how much George purchased the 18th-century pale-cream green-shuttered villa, but sources believe he may have used between $7 million to $12 million to buy it.

Over the years, the price of the estate has shot up, and it could now cost approximately $100 million. When George bought the villa, he thought he’d only spend a few weeks there vacationing, but he fell in love with the place.

Amal and George were also seen on a late date night out as they dined on the balcony of the lavish Grand Hotel Tremezzo.

The massive home has 25 rooms, a swimming pool, a full gym, a tennis court, a large garage, a pizza room, and several Italian charm and ornate detailing.

George decided to make Lake Como his home, and this choice opened up the area as a tourist destination. People started visiting the area, including celebrities such as Mark Twain, Donatella Versace, Giorgio Armani, and Clark Gable. The increased tourism and the boom of real-estate activity have been ultimately good for the local economy.

Locals also love George, and the mayor of the village even said they had given him honorary citizenship. George loves the area, and he doesn’t want his presence there to be a pain to the residents.

The actor even joined a match to stop the construction of a large parking complex and floating bridge in Laglio near his villa. Due to his actions, locals adore him and appreciate the role he played in putting Lake Como on the map.

When in Lake Como, George plays basketball with the children, rides his bicycle to town without his bodyguards, jumps on his boat and rides the waves, and goes to a local hotspot, “Harry’s Bar,” to enjoy a drink.

Amal also enjoys Lake Como with George. The two visit a five-star hotel, “Villa d’Este,” for dinner dates and “II Platano,” a restaurant to enjoy good food. He once took Amal to “Navedano,” a beautiful restaurant just outside Lake Como, for a special night.

George, who said buying the villa changed his life in a pleasant and unexpected way, is now mainly raising his family in Italy. The actor and his wife welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in June 2017.

George and Amal’s twins Alexander and Ella turned six in 2023. The parents mostly raise their kids in Lake Como, which has benefited them as they speak fluent Italian. However, George and Amal don’t speak Italian.

George hilariously said their twins sometimes speak back to them in Italian, and they really can’t do anything about it. Amal added that Alexander had become a big prankster as he now uses the lessons his dad taught him to prank the actor.

In July 2023, sources said the couple and their kids were moving into their Lake Como house to enjoy the remaining part of summer. The insider said the family was looking forward to painting while overlooking the water and playing soccer at a local club.

In 2019, George, Amal, former US President Barack Obama, and Michelle Obama were spotted hanging out on a boat near the actor’s mansion in Italy. George and Barack are close friends, and their wives were also seen chilling together on this boat.

George and Amal have remained united over the years, and the couple said being together was easy as they rarely fight and have rooted their relationship in love. Amal believes their peaceful and long-lasting relationship comes from the pure lack of meeting someone she was in synch with.
