Inside ‘We Own This City’ Star Jon Bernthal’s Marriage How He Won His Wife Over

Hollywood star Jon Bernthal has a beautiful family with Erin Angle, his wife of 12 years, but it would not have been possible if he hadn’t gone the extra mile to win her over. 

Fans are bound to see TV star Jon Bernthal bring on his expertise once again as an action film actor in the coming HBO series, “We Own This City.” Like always, Jon’s adrenaline-pumping stunts will be vividly portrayed in the crime drama set to be released in less than a week now. 

“We Own This City” is one of many shows the star actor has appeared in since his career kicked off in the early 2000s, but Jon Bernthal reclines into his role as a family man alongside his wife, Erin Angle, whenever he is away from filming. Here’s a look through his life as a dad and hopeless romantic.

JON’S LOVE LIFE WITH ANGLE 

There’s a thin line between finding lost love and losing it forever, and Jon Bernthal knows the significance of this. Although he has been married to Erin Angle for over a decade, he almost did not get the chance to try forever with her. 

In a 2018 Men’s Health interview, Jon opened up about his marriage with the hospital trauma nurse and the start of their romance. He recalled that their relationship began in his early twenties.

Jon had just returned from the Moscow Art Theater in Russia, where he brushed up his acting skills. The star met his future wife on the same night he returned to his hometown in Washington. 

The actor’s friends threw a welcome-home party, and that was where he spotted Angle. He stated about their first encounter, he says:

“I know this is the corniest thing in the world, but when I actually saw Erin, it was literally like angels were singing. I had never seen anyone so beautiful.”

The pair hit it off right from the start as they talked for over 45 minutes on that first day. After that, Jon and Angle started dating, but at that time, he barely knew what he wanted in a relationship.

The actor said he “did a bunch of dumb stuff,” and Angle wasted no time dumping him. However, it took a series of romantic gestures to get her to come around. 

INSIDE THEIR MARRIAGE

After Angle ended her relationship with Jon and moved to San Francisco, he was devastated. Whenever he was not busy in Hollywood, Jon would drive up to Angle’s home to place flowers and poems in her car. 

However, Jon gained the love and trust of his woman again after soliciting the help of great country musician Willie Nelson. He recalled visiting the backstage of one of Nelson’s concerts with a long letter and rolled joint to serenade his lover.

Jon shared: “I told him she’s a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin’ man, and I asked him to play this one song ‘Always on My Mind’ for us, and he did.”

Nelson’s performance marked the turning point in Jon’s relationship, as he and Angle got back together for good. The duo has three children, Henry, Billy, and Adeline, and the star dad is teaching his sons to stand up for themselves and be gentlemen at the same time. 

IN HIS ACTING CAREER

In two decades of acting in Hollywood, Jon has been an all-around actor playing the supporting character, the lead role, cameo, and a flashy role that doesn’t last past the second season. 

However, the actor has learned that in all, he had to throw in his weight to fit in his role perfectly. In one NY Times interview, Jon spoke about how he excels in taking a supporting role.

He explained that it was either about blending in with the other cast members at the start of filming or simply keeping the relationship on set at a professional level if he came in halfway through filming. 

Jon starred in the lead role on film projects like “The Punisher,” while acting in the supporting role on “The Unforgivable,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Many Saints Of Newark.”

The 45-year-old’s most recent appearance was in the sports drama “King Richard.” He has been getting award nods for his role.
