As she was about to tie the knot with the love of her life, Rebecca-Jo Dunham posted a glimpse of her memorable wedding weekend to her Instagram followers, sharing bits and pieces of the start of her forever.

Things did not turn out as planned for Dunham and her groom, with her mom sick and the weather uncooperative. Nevertheless, nothing could stop her happiness and excitement to walk down the aisle and marry Jay Baruchel.

Jay Baruchel and Rebecca Dunham’s Wedding in Portugal

Baruchel and Dunham took their relationship to the next level in May 2018 when he proposed, and she gave her sweet “yes.” However, they only announced the engagement to the public the following year.

At that time, the couple updated their fans, revealing that they were preparing for a Portugal wedding the same year. The ceremony was held in Palacio de Freixo, a decision that was easily chosen by the couple. Dunham shared a glimpse of her sentiments from Lisbon on Instagram. She said:

“Between my mom having to go to the hospital and be on bed rest, our collective lack of sleep, and skin that’s now covered in mosquito bites, we are all ready to leave Lisbon. […] despite the hiccups, we are [so] thrilled to get married […].”

Dunham had extensive wedding preparation and was mainly looking for a specific bridal dress. After searching every bridal salon in Toronto, she was left with nothing. Ultimately, she found a gorgeous dress at an Inbal Dror trunk show, leaving her mother and godmother in tears.

“We knew it was the one,” she said. Dunham’s maternal aunt lent her a Spanish-inspired veil that was both comfortable and beautiful.

The newlywed couple ended the night with wide grins on their faces, dancing the night away to the tunes of a Berlin-based DJ. Dunham called it an “incredible moment” as guests of different generations came together to dance.

Before Dunham came into his life, Baruchel was ready to tie the knot with actress Alison Pill. The duo was engaged from December 2010 until February 2013, after falling in love on the set of “Goon.”

Their relationship eventually ended, reportedly due to the long distance occasioned by their work. Baruchel lived in Canada while Pill was in the US, filming “The Newsroom.”

The Couple Dated for Six Months before He Proposed

Baruchel and Dunham credit Raya, a dating app, for bringing them together. According to Dunham, she liked the Canadian actor’s profile because of his interest in Slowdive, a band whose songs played during their wedding day.

The couple dated for six months before Baruchel proposed, but even from the start, they already had marriage in mind. It took only three months for them to realize that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. However, Dunham wanted to wait a bit longer.

They were already looking for rings together before the proposal, although she did not know that he would pop the question when he did.

Baruchel’s proposal was simple yet heartfelt. In a memorable turn of events, the couple was in the middle of an argument when the actor popped the question. He recalled:

“It was sort of a deus ex machina/trump card that won me the argument. It worked, but I also know that no future argument will ever end as easily as that one did.”

Jay Baruchel Asked His Wife for Advice about One of His Roles

As husband and wife, Baruchel and Dunham value each other’s opinions about everything, including their career. So, when the actor landed a lead role as Sean Moody Jr. on “The Moody’s,” he solicited advice from his partner.

“We each cracked open our laptops and sat on either side of the kitchen table and read them simultaneously and were both laughing a whole bunch. That made it easy,” he said.

The Toronto-based actor is most recognized for his appearances in “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Knocked Up,” “Undeclared,” and “Tropic Thunder.” However, his well-known on-screen credit in Canada was on the educational show “Popular Mechanics for Kids,” which he hosted at 15.

Baruchel isn’t the only Canadian actor who also found fame in Hollywood. Eugene Levy hails from the same country and had starring roles in “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Schitt’s Creek,” and “American Pie.”

Despite having a successful career, Levy also has a thriving marriage to Deborah Divine, whom he has loved since 1977. Like her husband, Divine works in the entertainment industry as a producer, production manager, and screenwriter known for “Manic Mansion.”

The couple got married in June 1977 and are parents to two kids, Dan and Sarah. Despite being busy in their careers, Levy and Devine managed to raise their family well while keeping their marriage strong. Certainly, they are a power couple to look up to.
