Jennifer Butler Was the One Who Filed for Divorce from Bill Murray – Facts about Her

Jennifer Butler was Bill Murray’s wife for over a decade before she filed for divorce from the entertainer. She was his second wife, and the couple welcomed four children during their union.

Bill Murray, born William James Murray, is an American comedian, actor, producer, and writer. His career started in 1973, and he is known for movies and series such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “Lost in Translation,” “A Very Murray Christmas,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Olive Kitteridge,” and more.

Jennifer Butler married her husband in 1997 after he divorced his first wife. 11 years later, she filed for divorce and laid several allegations against him.

Jennifer revealed in her filing that she was always true to her husband and was a faithful wife. She also noted that she was devoted and true to her family.

After she filed for divorce from her famous husband, he did not comment on her allegations. His lawyer later revealed that the entertainer was deeply saddened by their break up, but they would always put their children first.

Jennifer Was a Costume Designer

Born in California on October 24, 1963, Jennifer was a costume designer. Her career started in the early 1980s, and she worked on “Firestarter,” “Scrooged,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” “Ghostbusters II,” “Groundhog Day,” and more.

Unfortunately, she died on January 12, 2021, at 57. According to reports, she died on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina, and they never mentioned the cause of death.

Jennifer Met Her Future Husband Long before He Was Divorced

Jennifer had met Bill in 1988 when she worked as a costume designer on “Scrooged,” a fantasy comedy that also featured Alfre Woodward, Karen Allen, Michael J. Pollard, John Forsythe, Mabel King, and others.

When they met, he was married to his first wife, a talent coordinator, Margaret ‘Mickey’ Kelly. His first wife filed for divorce in 1994, and after two years, they finalized their divorce.

A year after he finalized his divorce, he married Jennifer, and they welcomed their four children, Caleb, Jackson, Cooper, and Lincoln.

Jennifer Not Only Filed for Divorce but Also Requested a Restraining Order

In May 2008, Jennifer Butler filed for divorce. In her filing, she accused the entertainer of physical abuse, abandonment, drug addiction, and adultery. She also asked for a restraining order against him.

The late costume designer requested the retraining order because her ex-husband’s alleged behavior forced her to leave their home with their four children in Charleston.

On the allegations of physical abuse, she noted that he had once hit her in the face and told her that she was lucky he did not kill her.

One month after her filing, the couple finalized their divorce. According to the reports, Jennifer was granted primary custody of their kids and got to keep two of their homes.

Her ex-husband was allowed to keep their other properties and was mandated to pay child support. In addition, he would pay her a lump sum as their prenuptial agreement stated that he would give $7 million if they divorced.

Jennifer Raised 4 Children with Her Ex

Jennifer and Bill welcomed their first son, Caleb James Murray, on January 11, 1993. Their second son Jackson William Murray was born on October 6, 1995; their third son Cooper Jones Murray was born on January 27, 1997; and their fourth son Lincoln Darius Murray was born on May 30, 2001.

There is very little information about most of their children. However, Caleb was a major supporter of “Black Lives Matter.” He was arrested during a protest on June 1, 2020, with a bail of $10,000.

Jennifer’s second son loved to travel with his longtime marine scientist girlfriend, Elena Mpougas. He would show their lives on his Instagram page but deleted his page in early 2020.

Her third son Cooper is an actor who started his career in 2012 and has been featured in two movies. His first movie “Moonrise Kingdom,” also starred Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, and his father, among others.

The young actor’s second work is a series titled “The Now.” It also starred his father and had other casts like Zoey Deutch’s boyfriend, Jimmy Tatro, Dave Franco, Darryl Hannah, Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and more.

Jennifer’s last son is the most private of all their children, as he does not have any social media footprint. There is no information on what career path he has followed.
